Nell Carter's "Amazing Grace"

I found this as I searched for Nell's performance of "Friend Like Me" from The Oscar telecast a few years back. The one that brought the house down and earned her a standing ovation from one of the toughest audiences around. Well, I didn't have luck finding that on youtube but I did find a beautiful clip of her performing Amazing Grace. As I watched I realized as a kid how much I was drawn to her. I vididly remember her singing in Milo Foreman's "Hair" and I remember watching the episode of "Gimme A Break" that this song is from. And did you know that she was to originate the role of Effie in "Dreamgirls" until she got offered a role in Ryan's Hope? I can...and can't see her singing "Im Telling You".

at anyrate...heres the youtube clip...its got me all sad cause Nell was way too young to die and such a talent. Enjoy!

Damn it, Sos! You made me stop my Prince 12in funk fest! Seeing Nell Carter's name stopped me cold! I LOVED to hear that woman sang(that's right...SANG!)

Truthfully though, I think Jennifer Holiday better be thankful for Ryan's Hope or we'd have never heard of her ass! lol

Thanks for posting this...even though...now you've got me all sad too...because I agree...she left us way too soon! sad

Well, I'm sure she'd come up more if she were more of a recording artist. She had a fantastic voice. I'm glad that, at the very least, she died while in a loving, stable relationship despite the fact that she was broke. She left her kids in the care of her partner; I hope all's well with them.

Wow touched that really made me tear up.

Her voice reminds me of Esther Phillip's nod

BTW she and Jenifer Lewis got offered the Effie role b4 Miss Holliday played it.
