As a huge fan from the release of 'Off The Wall' ('Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough' was the first 7" I ever bought with my pocket money) through 'Bad' it pains me to say this, but I wish his face wasn't the most interesting thing about him now. For someone obviously so talented, so gifted it's such a shame that watching him publiclly derail his career is the only thing the media and people care to talk about anymore.

Put up against all the amazing memories I have of the Michael Jackson 'I knew' it's just all so very bloody sad.

Yea its like another person. He was one of the coolest around the world. so damn talented. Prince was the Stones, he was the Beatles... thank God Prince still keeps going with only a few religious overtones now, and he still looks like a human.

eek OMG!!! Well, at least his hair looks good. He needs to fire all the people around him that keep telling him that he looks good and normal. Stop lying to him, damnit!!! But, I'm really happy to see that he's actually in the spotlight for something other than his personal problems. To pay honor to this moment, I will now jam out to "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)". music

I hope it will.

Ah, why does every thread has go into that "he looks fucking horrible" part and "since Thriller he´s worth nothing."....? You know guys, a lot of you critice MJ for keep trying to top Thriller, yet you are the ones who expect it from him, because everything less than that means he´s over for you....I mean during History he was still at the peak - not Thriller peak, but at the peak compared to everyone else.....His History concert here in Prague saw over 150 000 ppl, for God´s sake. His only "failure" was Invincible which sold around 10 milions copies, I believe. I think that most artists would give anything for such "failure" and they don´t even have to face all the negative publicity he´s recieved over all those years.

About time this record was re-certified! They've been sayin its sold 50million since the early 90s. That was at the start of the CD age, he sold many millions more copies of the original cd, and then sold many millions more when it was re-released in the special edition remaster. Thriller continues to sell around 4million copies a year.

There is some ambiguity as to how record sales are counting, but i'm pretty sure single sales and even greatest hits sales are included. That's stupid IMO, with the 50 - 60 million copies actually sold of Thriller he would still top anybody else by a wide margin...

2 the person who doesnt think thriller sells around 4million a year, um, what makes you think it doesnt, it sells around 10,000 copies a week in the US alone, thats over half a million already. Its always reentering the UK charts, getting as high as no11 only 2 years ago, and is never far from the top 40 all around the world on a continual basis.

Added to these facts, is the fact that also, THE REALLY OFFICIAL PEOPLE AT THE GUINESS BOOK OF RECORDS say it sells around 4million a year, u cant get any more accurate than them.

Michael Jackson's partial comeback is no thriller
By Mike Collett-White
Reuters
Wednesday, November 15, 2006; 6:53 PM

LONDON (Reuters) - Reclusive pop superstar Michael Jackson made a musical comeback of sorts on Wednesday, singing the chorus line of his charity single "We Are The World" before the sound cut out as he struggled for the high notes.

The 48-year-old, performing live for the first time since he was acquitted of child molestation charges in June, 2005, had been expected to sing his seminal hit "Thriller."

But to the huge disappointment of screaming fans, that was performed instead by young U.S. star Chris Brown.

Jackson looked uncomfortable at times as he was surrounded by excited young members of a gospel chorus on stage with him.

That did not stop supporters desperate to see their idol cheer his every move, especially when threw his black sequin jacket into the crowd.

The failure by the deposed King of Pop to demonstrate his voice and confidence were back to anywhere near their best was likely to raise further doubts about his ability to resurrect a career that has been on hold for years.

"I love you!" he shouted, before the World Music Awards 2006 ceremony he headlined wound up.

Earlier in the evening, Jackson was given the Diamond Award honoring artists who sell more than 100 million records.

Introducing Jackson, U.S. singer Beyonce said: "Tonight we are celebrating 25 years of 'Thriller'," referring to his seminal album. "If it wasn't for Michael Jackson I would never have ever performed. I love you, we all love you."

DOUBTS ABOUND

Jackson, who has been a virtual recluse for the last 17 months, thanked fans and his family, singling out his three children who have been with him during his stopover in London.

"I am greatly humbled by this award," said Jackson, who wore his jet black hair long and straight. "It was my dream that 'Thriller' would be the biggest-selling album ever ... and God has answered my prayers," he added.

Jackson's lifetime record sales tally is believed to be around 750 million, making him the most successful entertainer of all time.

Whether Wednesday's performance helps him on the road to professional recovery remains to be seen.

"I would say there's very little chance of him coming back from where he is," said Gareth Grundy, deputy editor of the Q music magazine, speaking before the show.

"I think people will always be fascinated by the freak show, and that's what's going on," he said. "I would categorize him as a celebrity as opposed to an artist."

Celebrities Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan were also at the Earls Court venue, where they were joined by hundreds of reporters eager to catch Jackson in action.

He has said he planned to move to Europe in a bid to resurrect his musical career and indicated he will release a new album in 2007.

I agree because if the trend is true and cd sales have declined significantly over the last 10 years, how is it that thriller sold an extra 40-50 million copies without hitting anyone's chart anywhere?
