SO TIRED OF JANET HATRED...Y'ALL ARE UNREAL FIRST OFF IM PISSED THAT YOU ALL DROVE AWAY MY SECOND FAVORITE ORGER, VOICES CARRY. BUT SERIOUSLY PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD ARE SO RETARDED WHEN IT COMES TO JANET. WHY THE HATE? WHY THE DOUBLE STANDARDS? "SHE SHOULD BE POLITICAL...SHE HAS ONE GOOD ALBUM LEFT IN HER THIS ISN'T IT...ok i'll take the caps off. No one has heard the album yet, people are negative toward the motherf*cking TRACKLISTING. It's like you all are looking to sabotage the project a month before it comes out. We have heard "Call on Me," a light ballad meant to get her some airplay on urban radio (which is working REALLY well by the way), and LOW QUALITY versions of "So Excited" and "Enjoy." "So Excited" IS a dance track and it is in the same vein as the Ciara/Cassie vibe that is on the charts right now...she needs ONE track like that for the record to succeed, DAMN! And "Enjoy" is total vintage Janet...though we haven't even heard it IN CD QUALITY. And she should put her clothes back on? Fuck that noise, it's so played out. You all are so agist. But that's beside the point...you've heard THREE SONGS, only ONE IN HQ. And already you're bashing the entire record. I just want to know what is the hidden agenda? Why do you all have so much animosity to an artist who is sexual when you are fans of PRINCE?!?!?! It's ridiculous and hypocritical.

Well, first of all, you have to realize that a lot of this negativity is coming from Janet fans; a lot of us have been with her for many, many years and expect a certain level of quality control from Miss J. It's not that we set out to dislike her new material; we just feel that it's just not up to the same standards that she had circa 1986-1998.

Just had to get that off my chest...you all are such BUZZKILLS about this new Janet era it's so irritating. [Edited 8/30/06 11:14am] I agree with 100% on dissing the CD because of the tracklisting. That's just plain stupid. However, why do you get upset over people not liking Janet. There are people out there who just don't believe she's all that, (I know that's a hard pill to swallow) unlike many of her fans who believe she is be all and end all when it comes to music. If Janet is Janet, then she is going to do well regardless of what people say. Secondly, I think many Janet fans, especially Voicescarry, who claimed they heard some of the tracks before, created such over-hype stating "OMG, the track is so hot, I can't stand it, Janet is the best, blah blah blah," then when we heard it, it was just blah. Voicescarry and others seem unable to objectively present Janet music. To them anything she does is great and when you come to the Org with this over-hype Janet can do no wrong mentality, you're going to get a backlash. Even I as a Prince fan can say a song sucks, when it sucks. Lastly, you mentioned Prince. When Prince was flaunting his sexuality, he was very young and, it was at a time when the majority in the music industry was not doing it, therefore it made him unique and exciting in a different way. Janet is doing that now, when it seems that it's the only way most females seem the need to promote themselves, therefore it just comes off as trashy now. Either way, I'm not impressed with the first three singles, yet deep down, I still believe the other tracks are great and I'm going to withhold judgement until the CD drops. WHICH EVERYONE NEEDS TO DO. [Edited 8/30/06 11:29am]

But let's be honest. Her talent is limited. It is wholly dependent on the quality of her production, and her sex appeal. She's spawned dozens of clones(that includes any single-name songstress not named Madonna or Sade) that she is now competing with. Donna Summer couldn't compete with Janet Jackson in 1993. Janet shouldn't compete with these young gals in 2006. Herein lies the dilemma. No one really wants to see Janet run around like she's in her twenties. She also sounds a little odd when she tries to sound like a hit-pop ingenue. But she can't fall back on her voice or her original formula. She can still put out a good song, but she's not 20 Y.O. anymore. Do you want to see her doing this at 45? 50? I want my favorite artists to keep doing their thing until they physically can't anymore. I love Tina Turner, if we had discarded her at 40 saying "you want her to go onstage in miniskirts and shake her ass at 45 or 50?" YOU KNOW WHAT WE WOULD HAVE MISSED? I just saw EWF and they blew me the fuck away. They're awesome and Philip Bailey? What about James Brown? A brilliant entertainer is a brilliant entertainer. That's why I feel people on this board can be so agist. It's so shallow. What, are you supposed to join the knitting club or just be an infrequent guest on The View once you hit 40 and that's it? Many on the Org can't stand the young ones Janet is supposedly competing with either and I don't think Janet or anyone should care about the competition because their in such bad shape. However when you have Jermain Dupree calling everybody else "sloppy" and over-hyping the upcoming CD, then you have three tracks that don't live up to the over-hype and these constant barage of half-naked photos. All I'm saying is that this album is called 20.Y.O. Why not take it back old-school and kill this over-hype and naked photos and let the music speak for itself like she did with Control.

What about James Brown? Good points, but consider that Janet hasn't a fraction of the singing or musical talent that those artists have. Janet ain't Tina Turner. She can't sang like Philip Bailey. And she ain't James Brown. A brilliant entertainer is a brilliant entertainer. That's why I feel people on this board can be so agist. It's so shallow. Janet puts on a great show. That is true. And she is as sexy as they come. But trying to act like a 20 year-old when you're 40 isn't the way to go either. She seems to be reaching. [Edited 8/30/06 11:46am] Props will be withheld until the showing and proving has commenced. -- Aaron McGruder

Indeed. The problem is that Janet legitimately has to worry about selling the records and getting in "heavy ro" on MTV and BET. The youngsters get played because the youngsters buy the records and watch TV. Janet is trying to reach that same audience. Tina Turner wasn't singing "Warmth" or "Moist" at almost 40. I don't think Tina was doing the fellating of the mic stand routine in the late '80's - early '90's. And even if she was, that had been part of her routine from the beginning. Thing is, most of us consider Janet's "brilliant entertainer" (which I cringe at compairing Janet and Tina, but...) days as the days BEFORE she had to whip out her boobs for every single picture taken. We're from the days when a sexy Janet song was 'Someday is Tonight' or 'Love Will Never Do'. We all supported Janet when she began to explore her sensual side circa janet. However, this in-your-face Janet stuff isn't allowing us to see any growth at all. I don't want another Britney Spears, one is enough. Janet used to be unique. Now she's no different than the other 25 pop/Rnb women clogging the charts. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

Anyway, Janet is not even in the same stratosphere as EWF or Tina Turner and I've been one of Janet's biggest fans from as far back as her damn Mae West imitations but let's be real. Looking good and feeling good at any age is fine but Janet doesn't seem to be growing much as an artist and while her long time fans are getting older and discovering new artists or digging stronger ones, Ms. Nasty is getting left in the dust. We are no longer satisfied or mesmerized by her pushed up boobs, pretty smile, predictable giggling, sexual lyrics and multiple interludes. She needs to step it up a notch, lyrically and musically. Gone are the days of running out to the store and buying magazines simply because it's Janet. She's gonna have to work a little harder to capture my interest or get my money. But can I get blown while I'm high? Yes, I have bashed Mariah but based on her stupidity, not her tracklisting and songtitles. Certain orgers here have made dialogue and debate about popular music IMPOSSIBLE with unreasonable and unfounded criticism. Lets debate what we don't like about "So Excited." Lets talk about why the 3 tracks are underwhelming, not "THIS WHOLE LP SUCKS. PERIOD." I always say WHY I don't like something Mariah does.
