Who remembers the Sylvers

Who remembers this seriously funky 70s disco act. They had some great songs like Boogie Fever and Hotline, theres a couple of funky ass videos on You tube, they were like a Jackson style family complete with matching afros and outfits. They tried a Jheri curled come back in the mid 80s.

Yup I remember them well. I remember reading in a "Right On" mag back then and Prince was asked "Has anyone ever told you that you look like one of the Sylvers?"..and his response was; "Is there anything I can do to change that?". (lol)..Then came the "relaxed" perm.

I almost saw The Sylvers with The Jacksons but the show was canceled.

I just sold my "Best of the Sylvers" CD from 1995 on Ebay for $136. So, somebody still loves them! The cut everyone was/is nuts about is Foster Sylvers "Misdemeanor" from 1973, which you'd swear was the Jackson 5 in their PRIME. That track is stunning. Just absolutely amazing. RIDICULOUSLY so.

Also, as a side note, Angie Sylvers was rumored to be fucking around with Tom Jones back in the 70s when she was 14 or 15 years old. Tom was, uh, older than that. My homeboy went to Hollywood High with her, and he said Tom used to come by in the afternoon and pick her up in limo and shit and had her iced out.

Everyone and their mama were convinced "Misdemeanor" was little Michael Jackson. lol lol Back in the late 80's it was one of those rare groves tunes that was big in the club scene.

I used to love Misdemeanore-that cut had funk all over it. It was still funky when the DOC sampled it for Funky Enough. I just found out that Foster Sylvers passed not too long ago.

I was not aware Foster Sylvers had passed...do you have any information on this?

I had both of his LPs on vinyl at one time...he had the kiddie-bubblegum r&b thing going on, but he did this a sick version of Paul McCartney's "Uncle Albert" I think on his first LP. Just not something I expected to hear him do. I remember thinking how the early 70s were like this, so much less musical segregation, everyone was not in a little box yet.

"Hotline" was the very first 7" that I ever owned so The Sylvers are kinda special to me.

I've never heard of Foster dying. He still seems to be alive on the internet. How and when did this happen?

I ran a thread on Foster's "Misdemeanor" on here a long ass time ago. That song is killin'! Never really dug the group though. They couldn't touch the J5, who I thought they were patterned after. Leon was a good producer, though. His work on Solar shows that.
SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him."

Yes. "Boogie Fever" and "Hotline" were their biggest hits. But I'll remember them for two things. The episode on "Good Times" When Willona was going through Mr Bookmans cloths. She held up a pair of pants and said "Good Lord! There's enough material here to outfit the Sylvers! And finally. Their performance in the movie "The Fish That Saved Pitsburgh. They tore it off!

I don't know which albums of theirs to get. I saw all of their albums (except for their first self-titled debut, darn it) and I wasn't sure what to check out if I was looking for some soul music. A couple looked like disco records.
