She looks great in that picture.
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

This is probably my all-time favorite Mariah song. I just listened to it recently and felt the urge to spotlight it. Love the message in this track and identify with it SO MUCH. Mariah :: Make It Happen (1991) Not more than three short years ago I was abandoned and alone Without a penny to my name So very young and so afraid No proper shoes upon my feet Sometimes I couldn't even eat I often cried myself to sleep But still I had to keep on going Never knowing if I could take it If I would make it through the night I held on to my faith I struggled and I prayed And now I've found my way... ::groovin':: Chorus: If you believe in yourself enough And know what you want You're gonna make it happen (Make it happen) And if you get down on your knees at night And pray to the L*rd S/he's gonna make it happen (Make it happen) ::clapping hands:: You're gonna make it happen (Oh Yeah) I know life can be so tough And you feel like giving up But you must BE STRONG Baby just HOLD ON You'll never find the answers if you throw your life away I used to feel the way you do Still I HAVE[!] to keep going Never knowing if I could take it If I would make it through the night I held on to my faith I struggled and I prayed And now I've finally found my way Chorus Make it happeennnnn Make it! We're gonna make it Make it! Oh, make it! Oooooohhhhh Ohhhhh Make it thru tha nite I held on to my faith I struggled and I prayed And finally found my waaaaayyyyy ::violently clapping hands::: --best part-- I ONCE WAS LOST BUT NOW I'M FOUND I GOT MY FEET ON SOLID GROUND!! THANK YOU L*RD!! ::music sharply cuts out:: IF YOU BELIEVE WITHIN YOUR SOUL JUST HOLD ON TIGHT AND DON'T LET GO!!! YOU CAN MAKE IT! MAKE IT HAPPPPEEEEENNNNN ::raises hands to the sky in spiritual ecstacy:: We're gonna make it We're gonna make it We're gonna make it We're gonna make it If you believe in yourself enough (We're gonna make it) And know what you want (We're gonna make it) You're gonna make it happen (Make it happen) And if you get down on your knees at night And pray to the L*rd S/he's gonna make it happen... The "feet on solid ground" edit. [Edited 3/1/06 3:39am] Oh, my God!! This song has such significance in my life...not just back then, but today.

One of my favorite Mariah songs and simply one of her best period. I can put that on repeat and never get tired of it. Prince.org is a cemetery where folks mourn Prince instead of celebrate him and his music. Last time I checked, Prince isn't dead yet.

She looks fantastic in that picture. She really should go back to her natural hair colour, it suits her face much more. As someone pointed out, 90-97 was her best period.

She really could blow back then. Anyone have an idea as to what happended to that voice? She seems to have devolved from a live singer to a studio singer. All the stuff she does now sounds great when it's spliced and diced on her records but the girl can't do that stuff live. She'll sing the verses live and then cuts to memorex when the song gets more difficult. I just think it's weird cuz she's never been known to have a drug problem or to smoke. I can't think of any other reason you would lose your voice.

[Edited 3/1/06 7:23am] I remember listening to this song on my iPod and I got into an elevator with a few people in it. This song was playing. The lady next to me actually could hear what I was playing and said, "Now that's something I need to hear right now..." then we just got in some mini-chitchat about staying motivated and holding on to your dreams. All because of this song!

All because of this song! Oh lord. You sound JUST like my sister. She's a "lamb" and I'm a HARDCORE Nippy fan and we would ALWAYS clash. Both or our rooms were on the 3rd floor, and she'd be blasting Mimi and I'd be blasting Whitney and we'd run in each others rooms and un plug the stereo speakers or scratch the c.d. up or take the WHOLE stereo. We made that shit more serious than it needed to be. Then I got into Prince and it was all cool. Once I had her convinced that he wrote "Sweet Thing" for Chaka after he sung it on that Musicology special One of Dansa's org hornies Supa is my gay messiah and he eats homeless dandruff sammitches on the bus. This was around the time when her voice was at its peak form. It stayed that way through her Music Box album, and to this day, I can't stop listening to her remix of "Anytime You Need A Friend." Her vocals on that just blow me away.

I remember not liking as mush at the time but it has grown on me and I love it now. This is one of the very few songs from the early period that Mariah still loves to do live. I think because it's a song she wrote on her own without Mottola making her do it like alot of the stuff on those early records. It's the most soulful song on EMOTIONS.

You know what I just realized? This song reminds me a LOT of "Love Will Save The Day" by Whitney. Anybody else hear that? Especially the remix on her greatest hits c.d. which I payed $40 for. But tis worth it. One of Dansa's org hornies Supa is my gay messiah and he eats homeless dandruff sammitches on the bus. The reigning queen of GD. All bitches step down. Prince.org: Where's Mani?
