Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniels both decided to leave the group in 1983.Ironically,the group were at the height of their popularity at this point.Their song "Dead Giveaway" was added to MTV's playlist and quickly became their first big crossover hit.Jody has often complained that Howard Hewitt was too controlling, and not always the nicest person to work with. For her,the magic was gone."I suppose we could have stayed together and recorded a few more albums, but we would have just been going through the motions",she explained.

So,Howard added two new members,Lisa Davis and Micki Free, and they scored a big hit with "Dancing In The Sheets" from the 'Footloose'movie soundtrack. They then released the album 'Heartbreak' in 1984 but it flopped and Howard decided to go solo. For their part, the group hired a new lead singer and continued releasing music.Their 1987 single,"Circumstantial Evidence" was produced by LA and Babyface and became a minor R&B hit that summer...another single "Games",featuring Free on lead vocals, also got some attention.

Go 'head David!! I can always rely on you with straight facts!! I forgot all about "Dead Giveaway". That was a big hit for the "Daniels" lineup. Speaking of Jeffery Daniels, I remember hearing horrible rumours that he used to beat on Stephanie Mills when he was married to her.

Dead Giveaway was a great song and the video was just the coolest. Watching it, a man became a Mack By Association and god knows what women felt when they say Howard...

Micki Free, however, has got to be the prettiest girl EVER in Shalamar. What? Oh...um...never mind.

I just purchased the last Shalamar CD "Wake UP". I like it, it seems to have that early 90's cheese I crave. A good listen.

I don't know if anyone else had seen it, but Jody Watley, Jeffrey Daniels, & Howard Hewitt did get together a couple of years ago and gave a cameo performance in a BabyFace video. I can't think of the song, but he managed to get them together. I almost peed myself...I thought they were gonna reform and do any album together. I think they would reform.....for the right price.

Cool video. It was great to see them again. I think it was called For The Lover In You as well.

It did look like they all were in separate rooms. I still thought it was cool that they would do it still.

The song is Babyface's 1996 single "This Is For The Lover In Me",which is a remake of the 1981 Shalamar hit, with some different lyrics. For the song and the video,Babyface recruited the three members of Shalamar, but they never appeared in the same studio together.Their vocal parts were recorded separately.Face has said that he wanted to reunite the group and possibly produce a new album for them, but alas,it never happened.Shame on them for passing up this golden opportunity!

That's sad that they did it separately....the dream is over. It's sad a lot of Black groups fall apart and end up hating each other so much, they can't even be in the same room with each other.
sad cry
