I think this is the essential Genesis collection.. due to having everything that made them successful on 3 disks.. The booklet talks about Genesis never really having a "signiture" album to be remembered by.. I think this should be it.

Yes, I believe you would call it that.. though some of these don't seem to have been "hits" or released on the radio so to speak..

there are about 40 songs on this collection... I see it more of how Pink Floyd did their best of collection on 2 disk.. Thats kindof what it reminded me of.

Disk 1
No Son Of Mine
I Can't Dance
Hold On My Heart
Invisible Touch
Throwing it all away
Tonight Tonight Tonight
Land Of Confusion
In Too Deep
Mama
That's All
Home By The Sea
Second Home By The Sea
Illegal Alien
Paperlate
Calling All Stations

Disk 2
Abacab
Keep It Dark
Turn it on Again
Behind The Lines
Duchess
Misunderstanding
Many Too Many
Follow You Follow Me
Undertow
In That Quiet Earth
Afterglow
Your Own Special Way
A Trick Of The Tail
Ripples
Los Endos

Disk 3
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
Counting Out Time
Carpet Crawlers
Firth Of Fifth
The Cinema Show
I Know What I like (In Your Wardrobe)
Supper's Ready
The Musical Box
The Knife

Another good example is something like McCartney's "Wingspan-Hits/History"..

It really is a "hits" "history" type of collection.. Cause this genesis set isnt exactly in Chronological order.. but it blends very well.. the first disk is the most well known radio tracks (most). Then it kindof dives into their more instrospective material.. the 70's stuff which is what disk two mostly contains.. then disk three is all peter gabrial.. some of the tracks go as long as 23 minutes...

Great stuff

Thanks for making me aware of this. This collection has everything I was a fan of. And you can't beat that price for a 3 disc set.

16 dollars? Thats the best deal i've seen in a long time on a new 3cd set.. of really really good music.. I was even satisfied payin 19 or 24.. but 16 is a steal smile

especially digitally remastered.. they sound top notch!

I would definitely pick this up if I wasn't already getting most of their albums instead. They have remastered albums for most of their releases, but they were remastered in '94 or so, and are hard to find now.

It is missing a track or two. Where's "No Reply at All", "Man on the Corner", and "Dance on a Volcano"? Particularly, the first two songs should be on there. Even if they weren't big hits, they still get regular radio play to this day on some stations.

But for the casual fan, this is a really great introduction. They are a hugely underrated band, no matter which era of their career you refer to....

I believe though the songs that were remastered were.. "newly remastered" if that matters
I havent heard the old remastered versions.. but I would assume the quality would be a little better.. but i havent heard the older versions to know

I dunno.. I love it though.. its deliscious!

If you already have the album remasters, this set isnt essential...

However , many of the trax have been remixed and contain subtle differences to the originals...( which is why I purchased it )

either way, it is a nice collection and a bargain at that price...

True that... Price makes it worth it.. if this set was 30 or over.. wouldnt have gotten it cause of the price.. but once I did get it and noticed the quality.. was happy with this..

I'm revisiting Trick Of The Tail right now... what a great album

Thanks for the suggestion!

I just picked it up and I'm loving it! I pretty much had everything on disc 1 already, but the other 2 discs are virgin territory for me!

I'm about to plow!

Man, I agree, this set has almost all the best tunes(my favorite Genesis period was '78-'86)...It's a shame, if they had just included "Dodo", "It's Gonna Get Better", "No Reply At All" and "You Might Recall", It'd be complete for me!

Pagey

Thanks for posting this. I was a pretty big Genesis fan back in the 70s and 80s, and the sound on my ancient Cds are pathetic, but I just never got around to buying the remastered versions.

The sound on this is amazing. The only complaint...there should be more from Abacab. That was THE album for me back in the day, and I think it was the one that made them huge and its also the one I hear on the radio now. Love Keep It Dark tho and glad its on here.

I find myself listening to their stuff more (3cd set) cause its remastered to prefection.. I hear things I've never heard in the songs now...

especially the gabriel stuff.. sheesh.. they sound 100% better.. like they just recorded it.
