Can anyone recommend me some great psychedelic 60's music hi, im kinda new to alot of 60's music and i wanna find out about it some more, but the type of 60's music that stood out in my mind the most is what i think is called psychedelic. what kind of sound i'm talking about is the austin powers theme song that i think quincy jones did and 'beautiful stranger' by madonna. its also in 'im a beliver' by the monkees, that song is really one of my favourites and kinda got me hooked to begin with. ive also heard 'in the garden of eden' by iron butterfly, and thats also an example of the kinda sound im refering to. so can anyone recommend me some really great songs that fall under this catergory?

Starbuck already mentioned some great ones, such as The Beatles, The Doors, Pink Floyd, etc. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 In many ways , those arent necessarily the "best" lps by the bands listed, just the more "psychedelic" ones... It certainly was one of the better eras for expirimentation... ( in the studio , that is "...all you need ...is justa touch...of mojo hand....."

Maybe I'm just stretching because they're my favorite band (or at least my favorite R&B band) but I'd also recommend Sly & the Family Stone. The music historian cliche is that their music was a mixture of "gospel, pop, soul, and psychedelia". Admittedly the later is not a very heavily emphasized aspect of their music and it mostly refers to their use of heavy fuzz toned guitar (and bass), but they have also occasionally employed other trappings of psychedelic music like strange psychotic/schizophrenic lyrics ("I cannot make it" one of my favorite examples) and "trippy" sound effects/production(again using a song from their debut as an example "trip to your heart").

I HIGHLY recommend Shocking Blue! They are a band from the 60's from Denmark I think? The singer has an amazing voice and they are quite funky as well. They did the original to "Venus" which you probably know from Bananarama's cover in the 80's. They rock!
