I'm really enjoying their new CD 'Dynamite'.My favorite song right now is "Seven Days In Sunny June",but I'm really starting to appreciate "Starchild","Love Blind","Tallulah" and "Electric Mistress".In fact,I heard "Electric Mistress" at a club the other night....it's a hot disco jam!

You should check out some of their early stuff. It has some killer bass and drum playing. Some of the sound reminds me of the album "Thrust" from Herbie Hancock. They're real alright! smile

Well, I don't think there's anything wrong with pop, as long as it's good pop. You know what I mean? wink There isn't much good pop around nowadays imo, let alone funk-inspired.

music Summer 2005 Song Of The Day: "Seven Days In Sunny June" by Jamiroquai music

The pebbles you've arranged
in the sand,they're strange
they speak to me like constellations
as we lie here
There's a magic I can hold
your smile of honey gold
and that you never seem to be in short supply of

(chorus)
Oooh,so baby let's get it on
drinking wine and killing time, sitting in the summer sun
You know I've wanted you so long
Why'd you have to drop that bomb on me?

Lazy days,crazy doll
You said we've been friends too long

Seven days in sunny June
were long enough to bloom
the flowers on the summer dress you wore in spring
The way we laughed as one
and then you dropped the bomb
that I've known you too long for us to have a thing

(chorus)
Oooh,so baby let's get it on
drinking wine and killing time, sitting in the summer sun
You know I've wanted you so long
Why'd you have to drop that bomb on me?

Oooh,so baby let's get it on
drinking wine and killing time, sitting in the summer sun
You know I've wanted you so long
Why'd you have to drop that bomb on me?

Could it be this?
the stories in your eyes
The silent wings
you'll fly away on

Seven days in sunny June
were long enough to bloom
the flowers on the sunbeam dress you wore in spring
Yeah,yeah...the way we laughed as one
Why did you drop that bomb on me?

(chorus)
Oooh,so baby let's get it on
drinking wine and killing time, sitting in the summer song
You know I've wanted you so long
Why'd you have to drop that bomb on me?

Could it be this?
the honeysuckle blessings you seem to show me
Could it be this?
for seven days in June I wasn't lonely
Could it be this?
you never gave me time to say I love you
Could it be this?
I know you don't believe me but it's so true

Don't walk away from me girl
I read the stories in your eyes
Don't you walk away from me,girl
I read the stories in your eyes
Don't you walk away from me girl
I read the stories in your eyes
Don't you walk away
I read the stories in your eyes

And you've been telling me
we've been friends for too long
Why you wanna drop the bomb?
Telling me
we've been friends for too long
I think I love you
I think I love you
Why you wanna drop the bomb?
Oooh

jamiroquai are rocking.

Although they may not be comparable to the greats, maybe not even proper funk,

but theyre the closest weve had for a long time and they have their own

individual sound, a mixture of acid jazz and funk, which noone else has topped.

theyre bloody brilliant!

Most fans would recommend that you start with the first two albums ('Emergency On Planet Earth' and 'Return Of The Space Cowboy'),but I'm gonna be bold and recommend that you get 'A Funk Odyssey' first. It's my favorite album by them and every song is superb.

A Funk Oddysey is my fave too!

it just sounds like theyve fully perfected the sound theyve been trying to harness for the last few years on that one.

And then like theyve lost it momentarily on the new one...

I love Jamiroquai especially the first two albums. I just got Dynamite and have been enjoying it. I really wonder why they haven't taken off in the U.S. aside from the one single they had. Call them what you will but they are sooo much better than half of what's being hyped today. They have so many good songs I lose track of my faves but how can anybody resist Little L???

Yeah,'A Funk Odyssey' is their masterpiece. It's the album in which Jay Kay finally developed into an amazing songwriter, imo.Songs like "Corner Of The Earth" and "Picture Of My Life" are stunning, with deep, introspective lyrics.Uptempo tracks like "Love Foolosophy" and "Little L" should be played at every club in the world (lol),this is what modern-day dance music should sound like. The album is a unique blend of 70s-disco/funk mixed with modern-day electronica, and the results are spectacular.

The new CD is great, but I don't think it's as good as 'A Funk Odyssey'.

It's a damn shame that America continues to ignore Jamiroquai.Their new single "Seven Days In Sunny June" is the best song I have heard this year (so far).It should be all over the radio and video channels. It's tempting to blame Sony for their lackluster promotional efforts (delaying the album until September in the US...wtf?),but I really think that American audiences don't always apprecciate good music anymore.Jamiroquai is a band that doesn't use samples or any other hip-hop trends....they play real musical instruments (hey, what a concept!)...no silly guest rappers, etc.Like you said, they are better than most of what you hear on the radio these days.

Yeah, they dont really seem to be part of any genre Ive seen take off in the US for a long time. It would seem theyre just not fashionable over there. I wonder when they will be...its hard to imagine the different reception they must get over there, Im so used to them being practically pop royalty.

I love This Corner of the Earth...makez me feel like cruising down da beach with da breeze againzt my face while da windowz are rolled down...so relaxing lol

I loved alotta songz from that album which was released in 1996- the first time i heard of em.

Some of their songz are pretty cool, but commercial radio here really did an overkill on their album (itz too late in da night 2 remember da name) which was released in 2001. I actually bought dat album- but somethin happenz 2 me and my reaction 2 music when they commercialise it too much. Itz like it losez itz vibe or feelin...and then it feelz plasticized and is a mock-up of what the general public want 2 hear. But then there are some songz dat u can't help but love either way. hmmm

with the proper promotion and airplay,"Seven Days In Sunny June" could be a HUGE hit here in the US....just like "Virtual Insanity" was. It's not too "disco-y" either, just a good old-fashioned pop/soul song.

So true. I caught a show by them when their first album came out and they were so well received. I really thought they were gonna take off here. But nothing. Then when we got Virtual Insanity I was like, "Finally!" But then it was quiet again. Sometimes I think it's just as well that certain acts don't take off in the U.S. because then it's only a matter of time before something dreadful happens like videos catering to American audiences or remixes with rappers produced by Kanye or whoever.

nod

Agreed. It's a probably a good thing that they're not more popular here in the States.I would hate to see them "sellout" and make their music sound like today's bland R&B and hip hop.

I think he should find another songwriter as most of his material sounds the same.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
