Lets all keep our fingers crossed in hope that they will at least get together again and push out another album. We all know that they do their separate things, Raphael most notibly with producing and his solo efforts, Dwayne also released a solo album in '99 I believe, but together, they created so much of that soul magic that you can never forget about!!!! These cats do not get enough love nor credit. I have all of their CDs, however, Sons Of Soul is one of my all time favorite albums. It still sounds as fresh today as it did in 1993. They were true neo-soul before it had a name and unlike most neo-soul artists, the imprint of New Jack gave them the ability to lay down a groove and to create genre straddling albums.. Great musicians with oustanding talent and ability, but Raphael Wiggens/Saddiq is the man. | |

I have their first album and it is OK. I don't have their second album but I do have their 1993 album "Sons Of Soul". It was a really great album and it was good to hear someone doing funk in 1993 because funk had become a very endangered species by then. My favorite track from the album is "Tell Me Mama". I bought their 1996 album but I only liked "Let's Get Down". I was very disappointed with that album. Andy is a four letter word. | |

Exactly. I've chronicled the roots of Neo Soul and that EXACT ALBUM ushered in the Neo Soul era (At least on the male side) and puts Saadiq as the Godfather of Neo Soul, having been the scribe behind D'Angelo's "Lady" which some people mistakenly have regarded HIM being the beginning of Neo Soul. The title alone proves that it was Saadiq and his kinfolk to intro us to Neo Soul = "Sons Of Soul." "But what of black women? . . . Raphael still got lots of funk in him, "Ray Ray" and the 2 new trax he produced on Leela James album "Soul Food" and "Rain" (Rain soundin like a direct take from Lucy Pearl ) If it's Toni Tony Tone or Lucy Pearl to get back together I WISH ONE OR THE OTHER cuz man they deserve respect and more knowledge of their music and influence on true funk & soul.

I bought their debut album in 1988 after hearing the first single "Little Walter".That song was HOT! I was really impressed with the rest of the album,especially the slow jam "Not Gonna Cry For You",which I always felt should have been a single.Other songs like "Baby Doll" and "For The Love Of You" are excellent....late 80s R&B at it's best.At a time when almost everyone else in R&B were jumping on the New Jack Swing bandwagon,the Tonys were sticking with real funk.
I also bought the second album 'Revival'.The first four or five songs are funky as hell! "Feels Good" was my favorite.Slow jams like "It Never Rains In Southern California" and "Whatever You Want" are top-notch.A very impressive sophomore album. I didn't buy the third album  but I'll probably get it at some point.
The final album 'House Of Music' contains what is arguably their finest slow jam ever: "Wild Child",which brings to mind those soulful,horn-boosted jams we heard in the 70s.I think this song was some sort of tribute to Tower Of Power. [Edited 8/19/05 5:00am] | |

I love Sons of Soul.  That album holds such great memories for me...
My favorites are I Couldn't Keep It to Myself, Leavin' and My Ex-Girlfriend ("I paid her way through USC, but guess what? She was not down with me." That's cold!)  The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp. | |
