The song is just talking about taking care of your partner. Simple. No need to call NOW.

I mean, seriously, in 1969 you had Aretha singing about "R-E-S-P-E-C-T", now you've got Beyonce warbling about bringing some guy his slippers! Please - is that really progress?? All this stuff about "my life would be purposeless without you," "so much of me is you," and "your wish is my command" - that's just plain scary! If I had my way, there'd be Parental Advisory stickers all over that shit! These are exactly the lines that made me so sick to my stomach. I work with teenage girls, and I die inside a little bit every time one of them starts singing or listening to this song. The Normal Whores Club

Young women singing that their lives would be utterly purposeless without their men, and basically presenting themselves as having no needs of their own, is damaging to young girls. I thought that unrealistic expectations of women to be chefs, massage therapists, errand girls and sex slaves to their men, while always "lookin' tight" had finally passed on. And just for the record, if the tables were turned and this were a man singing it to a woman, it would be just as pathetic, albeit free of the associations with decades of gender oppression. Funk Mistress: I see where you're going with your comments but your blowing Rhondas comments out of proportion. She's not implying that women being overly submissive to men at all. She was just saying that the song was about doing something special for your mate.

The point I disagree with Rhonda on is that the song is simply about caring for your mate and nothing more. I just don't see it as harmlessly as she does. The Normal Whores Club

Again, I want to emphasize that I feel that you're taking Rhonda's comments about the song out of proportion. I have to agree with her that the song in no way is condoning being overly submisive to men and is about treating your male mate special which is not wrong if you're in love. I am not fan of neither nor have I ever bought any of their records. However, I am not offended by their single.

I aint really no fan of Destinys Child, but I do like them though. "Cater 2 U" is one of DC's best songs. Im feelin it to death. But the song is seriously being taken out of context. The song aint even about women being nothing without men. Remember this is from the same group that made "Independent Woman". Whats wrong with wanting to do anything/whatever for your love partner? It aint like they said they wanted to lick his dirt of their man's boots or anything. Onion Juice appears courtesy of Streethop.com

And vise versa even - even if its one woman singing to another woman. Most people who are in love with each other feel that way. The song aint even talkin about sexes or gender; its about being madly in love. Why dont y'all not understand about that? [Edited 7/21/05 12:29pm] Onion Juice appears courtesy of Streethop.com
