Dress You Up: Madonna..Lets talk about it here

This was a hit for her back with the Virgin album and tour but this one rarely gets played in my area. It wasn't even on The Immaculate Collection. mad

My favorite parts are when she says "in my love" and "love you boy"

Probably my favorite song off the album.
It's a shame she didn't do this song during her RIT as originally planned.
Instead she did Material Girl, but put no heart into it.

This song and Angel are the only songs still worth listening to on that album. Great song, and I love the silly live video. All those damn bracelets and eye makeup.

I love that vid too. She looked like a racoon. And her silly dancing is always fun to watch.

It's also relatively easy to sing if you aren't actually a singer. In my love.

And her lower register of "all over your body" makes it easy to sing as well. What a juxtaposition. The high whine of the song and her throaty "all over your body." I take it she opened with this song on the Virgin tour judging from the live video and entrance.

Great, now you've opened the doors for people who doubt Madonna's talent...

I meant easy to sing in an audience in the car or shower kind of way (even though Mads no Aretha, Lisa Standfield).

I wasn't saying that Aretha or Lisa were easy to emulate singing. I meant that Madonna wasn't them in singing aspects and that DYU was easy for non-singers to perform well because of the pitch and melody. And not a dig on Madonna either.

I love the song... i'm sad it got lost in the era of when "Angel" "Into the Groove" "Crazy for You" "Gambler," and "Dress You Up" were in the top 10 at the same time.

The performace on the Virgin Tour was great, and the performance on the Who's That Girl Tour was great too. The Cyndi Lauper insipred costume and the slight change in lyrics.

the worst and cheesiest of the singles from this album, and that's saying something when you take into account the cheesiness of LAV and MG.

i actually dislike this song quite a bit. Over and Over or LDLHA or Stay would have made better choices.

I was seriously thinking about this song on the way to work today. It's a great pop song, she ought to embrace the funny super poppy part of her musical past. It's a fun song.

For the most part,I rarely listen to Madonna's first three albums. There are some cool dance/pop songs on these albums, but I prefer the more serious, more "artistic" Madonna that we started seeing with 'Like A Prayer' and beyond.

I'd like to know your opinion of the Virgin Tour lol

Anyways i kinda agree, though I think by True Blue she started to get more serious despite a few silly songs it's a pretty good album.

Oh I agree.'True Blue' is when she began to get more serious, and focus on serious songs that had something to say.The first Madonna song that really blew me away was "Live To Tell".It's a good album overall, but it's weak compared to what came after.

Pretender is an okay. Part of the reason I dislike Over and Over so much (aside from the fact that I just think it's a bad song) is that my CD copy of it skips just as she starts to say "over and over," so that I have to hear, "o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ver and o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ver." lol

I think the Like A Virgin album is an excellent album, her best pure pop album, although obviously not her best. I like it a lot better than true Blue as I think the production on that album lets it down, whereas Nile Rodgers made the difference with Like A Virgin. Also the filler on Like A Virgin is better than that on True Blue (Jimmy Jimmy?!?!?!.....bring me a bucket)

Dress You Up and Shoo Bee Doo are the best forgotten songs off this album. Its just a pity that Crazy for You and Into The Groove aren't on here. Into the Groove is without doubt one of her best ever singles, just brilliant. It was a big mistake that they didnt put remastered versions of these two on the Like A Virgin re-release.
