VH1 Save The Music Concert 2005

I just saw an ad for VH1's Save The Music concert which is supposed to air on April 17th with Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Joss Stone, John Legend, Rod Stewart and Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty.

I know this concert used to be the annual "Divas" concert, but I guess they are running out of "divas" to showcase. Apparently, Ashlee Simpson, Lindsay Lohan and Ciara don't quite qualify as divas, JoJo and Hilary Duff must be too young, and they don't think Tori Amos or Kate Bush are popular enough.

I swear VH-1's latest TV promos have been including Donna Summer as a performer.
Ripher, DavidEye and VoicesCarry would at least be interested in that part of the show if true.

I thought they're trying to save the music? confused
The only person in that lineup that could save the show is Rod Stewart.

I'd love to see him too but I doubt that he would perform the songs that I like such as:

Hot Legs
Do Ya Think I'm Sexy
Passion
You're Insane
Tonight I'm Yours
Infatuation
Dirty Weekend
Ain't Love A Bitch
Gimme Wings
Tonight's The Night
Maggie May
Young Turks
Foolish Behaviour

He would probably be performing his "softer" adult contemporary type late 1980s, 1990s, and present hits like "Downtown Train".

no, he'll probably perform some dried up standard from 100 years ago that nobody under the age of 75 could give a damn about. if his recent recordings are any indication....

Someone To Watch Over Me
Our Love Is Here To Stay

Standards?
Yes

Dried up?
Hardly. Great melodies are timeless.
I rather listen to any of the above tunes over the bulk of melody-less tripe being excreted today.

Now those songs in the hands of Rod Stewart is an entirely separate issue.

Btw, i'm much younger than 75. wink

well, you only managed to come up with a grand total of 9 songs from 3 albums, so for now, my comment will stand lol he'll probably perform some dried up standard from 100 years ago that nobody under the age of 75 could give a damn about.

but then, he also might perform one of the 9 songs you listed as well wink

Just watched this on VH1. So what did you people think of this? Alicia Keys had a high school orchestra backing her up on "Karma" which I thought was really cool. Mariah Carey and John Legend did a cover of Billy Preston and Syreeta's "With You I'm Born Again." I really liked the duet, but Mariah's voice was really rough in some parts. Rob Thomas did a cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Chile" with Robert Randolph. Didn't care too much for Rob Thomas' vocals, but Robert Randolph was amazing on the slide guitar. headbang

you know...I was wondering about the Divas concert. Because they should've aired it by now. But yeah....they're running out of people to have on there. You can't top the first one with Aretha. After the second or third one....they should've just stopped. If they do another one it should be Aretha, Diana, Tina and Elton (giggle) all on the same bill. Last year was an abomination, so I guess that tells you somethin' there. As much as I love them, I really wouldn't wanna see Kate Bush or Tori Amos on a Divas show. Their music is just doesn't fit....it's not glamorous enough. It seems like Kate would qualify for "Diva" with her theatrics, 50 million costume changes, and lighting effects, but musically she's too obscure for the average person. And Tori's music is too intimate and emotional.

add on.

I do like Mariah's voice but I haven't been a fan of her music or image for quite some time. However, her voice didn't sound good last night at all. Was she fighting a cold or is her voice unfortunately on the decline for whatever reason...?

Yo Vain,

You like "do ya think i'm sexy"? I love thatt song but I heard a lot of people didn't like it because it was a sell out from rock music. Do you own any of his albums? If so, which ones?

Here are a few divas they could have on the show.

Cheryl Lyn (she has one of the best singing voices ever)!
Grace Jones (the ultimate diva)
Van Hunt (as the male diva)

I loved Donna. Her voice is so great. Better with age just like Tina Turner. Joss Stone just trips me out, with her womanly voice singing about stuff I hope she hasn't experienced yet. Since she just turned 18 last week. She actually passed me on the street on or about the day of the taping, and looked at me fetchingly. I liked John Legend and his song. But his phrasing is so strange to me, like Mikaylah on American Idol. It sounds like he's saying "we're oared in airy peephole". The Rob Thomas performance was very suspicious. 4 girls dancing in the front row when the room sat on its hands? It seemed like his record company hired people to make his solo material look like a good investment. Mariah's first outing in the orange tit suit was fun.

How about these for a "Divas" show:

Annie Lennox
Martha Wash
Madonna (for sure; she's overdue)
Beyonce
Cyndi Lauper
Liza Minnelli (if she did a reunion with the Pet Shop Boys)
Shirley Bassey (with Propellerheads)
Melissa Ethridge
Kylie Minogue
Patti LaBelle (not just a cameo appearance)
Lisa Marie Presley
Jody Watley
kd lang
Barbara Streisand
Christina Milian
Wynonna
Sade
Stevie Nicks

Or how about some lead-singer ladies, solo:
Terri Nunn(Berlin)
Dale Bozzio (Missing Persons)
Martha Davis (Motels)
Amie Mann (Til Tuesday)
Siouxsie Sioux
Gwen Stefani
