Beyonce has potential, she needs to drop her Dad as her manager and her mother as her stylist

What I don't understand is why they had her sing the song from The Phantom of the Opera. I understand that they canned Minnie Driver's performance of the song, and replaced her with Beyonce. Why didn't they just have Emmy Rossum sing it? She was right there. Beyonce's voice is okay, but Emmy Rossum has a beautiful singing voice.

Three cheers for Beyonce doing comptent but not special verisons of other people's songs. Why not have the original artists perform them. That was a waste of time and was basically just another reason to trot Beyonce around. The backlash shall begin!

I'll gladly admit that I liked Beyonce's performances last night, she held up well through each song. If there's one thing to gripe about, why was she the only choice for a performer, where were the original performers of the songs? I can only see this as a Very Calculated audition for future roles in Hollywood for Beyonce, shrewd indeed on her father's part. She did quite well.

the academy's first choices were ashlee simpson and usher, but they backed out when they found out the microphone would actually be on.
