Good dance songs about depressing topics

my favorite is Typical Reasons (Swing My Way) by Prince Markie Dee and the Soul Convention...i love jamming to this song, but feel guilty since it's about spousal abuse. Even in the video, the girl gets killed by her boyfriend at the end, if i remember correctly.

you look better on your myspace page than you do in person hmph!

Wow! I have that music video on a VHS tape. You're right about the plot of the video. The coroner calls from the city morgue on Prince Markie Dee's cell about the death of a girl and they want him to come down and "identify the body." It had a Gap Band "Outstanding" sample. Cool song.

OMG! Ten City's "That's the Way Love Is" thumbs up! Love this record so much. You can dance away the blues to this joint! dancing jig

Two people take a vow to be together
and live and love each other forever.
They promise to love a lifetime
funny thing

then they change their minds.
They both go their seperate ways and love is just a memory.
But a young heart doesn't stay sad long

another love soon comes along.

That's the way love is
that's the way love is

that's the way love is.

Two people don't get along
deep down in

both have feelings very strong

They try hard to conceal it.
Their hearts burn 'cause they both know they can feel it.

That's the way love is
that's the way love is

that's the way love is.

Lovers leave without a reason
feelings change just like seasons.
In love nothing's for certain

There's no use in pretending what's behind the curtain.

That's the way love is
that's the way love is

that's the way love is.

No one knows how this feeling goes
it's hard to believe

Even stranger to conceive.
It's so gratifying
love's feeling
ain't no denying.
Yet it's so unfair when the feeling's no longer there.

Very honorable mention to (My man)Eddie Kendrick's "Date With the Rain." worship

I have no clue what this song is about even though I can read the lyrics.
But he sounds depressed and it IS a good dance track.

One Thing Leads To Another - The Fixx
The deception with tact, just what are you trying to say?
You've got a blank face, which irritates
Communicate, pull out your party piece
You see dimensions in two
State your case with black or white
But when one little cross leads to shots, grit your teeth
You run for cover so discreet, why don't they

Do what they say, say what you mean
One thing leads to another
You told me something wrong
I know I listen too long but then
One thing leads to another.

The impression that you sell
Passes in and out like a scent
But the long face that you see
Comes from living close to your fears
If this is up then I'm up but you're running out of sight
You've seen your name on the walls
And when one little bump leads to shock miss a beat
You run for cover and there's heat, why don't they

Do what they say, say what they mean
One thing leads to another
You told me something wrong
I know I listen too long but then
One thing leads to another

One thing, one thing leads to another

Then it's easy to believe
Somebody's been lying to me
But when the wrong word goes in the right ear
I know you've been lying to me
It's getting rough, off the cuff I've got to say enough's enough
Bigger the harder he falls
But when the wrong antidote is like a bulge on the throat
You runs for cover in the heat why don't they

Do what they say, say what they mean
One thing leads to another
You tell me something wrong
I know I listen too long but then
One thing leads to another

One thing, one thing leads to another

Since we are on the topic of Donna Summer, you should also add MacAuthor Park to the list.

First song coming to my mind is an Italian one: it's called "Salirò" (which means "I will rise" more or less) by Daniele Silvestri and it's very 70s and groovy and it's all about him telling how depressed he is and hoping he will rise again.

It's not really a dance song as such (altho' you can dance to it if you're club-footed) but the Bee Gees' Tragedy is a fine example of downbeat lyrics set to upbeat music.

Club-footed? I would think anyone with a club foot would have a hard time dancing, lol. I know what you really meant.

For the record, "Tragedy" by the Bee Gees went to #22 on Billboard's U.S dance chart back in 1979 so a few people were dancing to it.

Together Again...I hate the song but the subject matter has brought me to tears a few times..

"The Love I Lost" is a hell of a tune, too...

Most economic fallacies derive from the tendency to assume that there is a fixed pie, that one party can gain only at the expense of another.
