Jon B: The Smoothest White Boy Alive!

Justin Timberlake may get the accolades, but before him there was Jon B, quite possibly the slickest and smoothest white boy on the music scene today. What do you think of Jon? How is he in comparison to fellow blue eyed soulsters like Justin and Remy Shand? Jon's new album "Everyday Struggles" comes out Oct 5th.

Actually the new album is called "Stronger Everyday". I'm not sure if he's mixed or not but it would explain a lot. I LOVE "Pleasuers You Like", his last album. It's perfect cruising-in-the-car-at-night music.

JT lost his ghetto pass when he did no support Janet during Boobgate. However, I know Jon B.'s Ghetto Pass hasn't expired and still in effect. He is still cool with Sistas. He has written music for TLC and other groups on LaFace label in addition to his solo project. He has a much more smoother style than Remy and Justin.

I won't front. Jon B. is on my list of soulful white boys... I thought he was faking it until I heard Burning 4 U from his debut. The unreleased Jack Herrera project is also proof in the pudding that the boy's got soul.

I've heard Someone To Love feat. Babyface and Pretty Girl (both written by Babyface I think) - I like them both, though he sounds just like Babyface esp. in Pretty Girl. Babyface singing Pretty Girl would have sounded just the same.

I cant say that I thought Jon B was soulful.....his singing was very whiny and typical of most 90's r&b(which isnt sayin much as far as soul is concerned) imo...

Its kinda like Pink..she was r&b with her first CD..then went to her rock roots(which was the real Pink) with the rest of her albums...prior to her CD's Pink was in a R&b group and they sounded r&b....thats kinda how I see Jon B.....he is doing r&b but I dont think he's necessarily soulful.....lemme hear him sing "Thank You Master For My Soul" by Donnie Hathaway THEN we will know if he soulful or not wink

I agree his voice sounds kinda whiny too. But when I think of soul, I incorporate the vocals, the music and the arrangements. I don't necessarily think a "gospel" voice determines what makes you soulful or not soulful.

u r right but I dont think that Jon B is soulful...like I said..he has the typical 90's r&b sound...just like Keith Sweat is not soul ful...he is r&bish not soulful..imo..same with Jon B

Alright now, so you had to drag my boy Keith Sweat into this thread. You say Keith is not soulful then what is he? He certainly not a rock singer.

As for Jon, he is just a white boy trying to fake the funk and sound black. I can't hate on him b/c he tries hard to sound black and he is good eye candy

I just hated the way he seemed to be trying to hard to flaunt his "blackness". He was always the "cool white boy" surrounded by all black girls in his videos. It just seemed like overkill to me. Okay, we know you dig black music - you don't have to hit us over the head with it.

That being said, my cousins loved the s**t out of his ass. He and Nick Lachey are on their "white boys I would f**k" list.

He would have a better chance of walking through my neighborhood and not getting his ass kicked for being there (I saw it happen a few years ago) than Justin T.

I dont think hes flaunting anything, or trying to be "black", just by having black girls in his video. I mean his wife is black for christs sake. I think hes just being himself, it just seems a lot more natural unlike some ppl like JT. Hes talented, but tries a little too hard for me.
