"17 Days"

I'd never heard the song until tonight, and it's fast become one of my favorite Prince songs ever. Does anyone have background info about this song? I'd also like to know about "She's Always in My Hair," too.

"17 days" is the b-side of "when doves cry" , this song was 1st intended 4 the Apollonia 6 's album and was sung by Bennet (the blonde woman).

"She's always in my hair" is the b-side of "paisley park" and "raspberry beret" singles.

17 Days may be a B-Side but it was the first song released from Purple RAin. When I was in Lousiana, this song was played everyday for 17 Days until the release of Purple Rain. Then songs like Lets Go Crazy and When Doves Cry blitzed the airways and video station. That's the way I remember it at least.

How do you know the song was about Jill Jones? Sweet words..... and a very funky bob yo'head grove.....

Whenever I feel like givin, up
Whenever my sunshine turns to rain,
Whenever my hopes, and dreams are aimed in the wrong direction,
she's always there telling me how much she cares, she always in my hair
The road you choose to walk in this life, is a road that leads to the next.....

Great song...also one of my favorites. IMO better than most of the stuff he chose to put on his albums. That and She's Always In MY Hair are too tough!!!

One of his best songs, ever, period. The fact that it's only a B-side is mind-boggling. eek Same with Erotic City . . .

Ahhh, the good old days of 'B-Sides'. biggrin

17 Days was indeed originally going to be on the Apollonia 6 album (sung by Brenda Bennet...
hence the line about cigarettes). It was replaced on the finished album by Blue Limousine.
The album was also originally going to include Take Me With U and Manic Monday too!

"17 days" is beutiful and "she's always in my hair" is funky yet personal at the same time!

Prince used to perform "She's always in my hair" live from time to time, but I ain't never seen or heard "17 days" live? Perhaps he only performed it only at aftershows at small clubs only, which is a shame really!

One of my absolute favorite Prince songs, this is the magic that he could make with Wendy and Lisa who are co-credited with Fink as composers for this song.

I've been a Prince fan since I was a kid. I'm 20 now, but I really got into him when I was about 11 or 12. I bought all the regular albums, but I just never got ahold of the b-sides. I'm so glad I discovered them now.
