do you remember the first time you heard a prince song

I remember first heard prince in the car with my family I was 13 {1978} when I heard that song it struck such a chord with me that i would always sing it to myself I never heard again until years later but I always remebered it until I bought the Tape

The first time I remember was the BBC Documentary (from 1989? I forget).

But it was the Batdance video I remember so very distinctly.

I was only born in 1978, so forgive me for not remembering further back, but I do remember being laid down infront of the TV watching the documentary, and I rememebr the Batdance video very vividly, and being transfixed by it.

That didn't make me a fan, I can't remember me taking any notice until 1991, when my sister got hold of D&P, and started to get into Prince big time, after which I was kind of brainwashed into liking his music. She dropped off after the name change, I stayed along for the ride.

1999...but to this day i remember just how strange kiss sounded.the weirdest thing i had ever heard!

the very first prince song i ever heard (as well as the first video i ever saw) was for "u got the look", back when it first came out in 1987. i was only 6 years old, and i remember seein the video for it all the time on nbc's friday night videos, plus i always heard it bein played on q-102 in des moines (they played it to death, man!). i liked it right away, but never paid closer attention to p till much later.

I clearly remember hearing Gett Off for the first time. I was on holiday with a friend and he was a big, big Prince fan. He went to the record shop and brought the cassette single and played it over and over. I hated it.

At that time Prince was just that weird bloke who screamed a lot, I really didn't get it. However, I hadn't heard too much of his stuff. As I started to hear some other songs from D&P I started to quite like them and ended up buying the CD. Then I started to borrow other albums from my friend.

Today he hates Prince and I love him, go figure.

Little Red Corvette. I remember seeing the video for the first time on MTV back in '83 which is also the first time I had heard the song, too.

I was 12. A lonely Saturday night in June 1985, home alone because mom was at work, sister out with friends. (okay, yeah, I was a whole year late, but I live in a pretty isolated place).

8 pm comes along and I moved the little switch on the cable box to HBO (haha, remember those?). Watched that cool little HBO intro (is that still on?).

First cords of "Let's Go Crazy." .. I was hooked. I think I might have watched parts of the movies on my knees in front of the little 13" t.v. LOL (no jokes, please).

When I went to school that fall, I told all my friends about Prince, while they were all still riding the "Thriller" train. No one could understand my new obsession with his royal badness.

I was still holding on to my gift certificate to Wherehouse music that I had gotten a few weeks before for my birthday. I immediately wanted to buy the "Purple Rain" album. Somehow, for some reason that I can't remember right now, my mom made me talk to both my pastor and my older brother before I was allowed to buy it. I clearly remember sitting in front of my pastor and his wife after a youth group meeting, with them asking me why I wanted to buy that album. I said, "cuz it rocks!" My pastor asked, "do you run to the tv whenever he's on? do you buy every magazine with him in it?" I answered, "no. why would I?" Of course, such behaviour was only months away. LOL

Yup, watching the "Purple Rain" hooked my young, impressionable teenage mind. And I have never stopped since.

My aunt was heavy into R&B (not that common for white folks in east Tennesee) and raised me on Gladys Knight, The Stylistics, Delfonics, etc. The first Prince tune I ever heard was her 45 (remember those?) of "I Wanna Be Your Lover", which I fell in love with. Not long after that I saw Prince perform on some TV show, either American Bandstand or Soul Train. I was awed and fascinated and maybe just a little frightened of this strange creature. Haven't stopped listening since.

The whole Controversy album was played in the back seats of our school bus as the band was going either to a football game or a competition, we were all being really quite and listening cause we thought what we were listening too was soo racy and dirty. It was in 1984. A rainy late afternoon. I was sitting in the backseat of a car driving through my hometown, when i heard "let's go crazy" on the radio and i didn't know who it was. Next day i went into a recordstore and asked for it. This was the beginning and it didn't end till now.

L.R.C. - sitting on my cousins couch - he put the 45 on one of those HUGE record players that look like a dresser, with the speakers built in . . . i was about 11 - i was so in awe . . . he played Stray Cat Strut next . . . and then i made him keep playing LRC so i could totally absorb it before i went home.

W.D.C. - sitting in the back seat of my dad's blazer on the way to dinner - the world STOPPED ya'll. all i cared about at the moment was that song!! i was ROCKED beyond belief . . . i was 13 i guess.

The first time I ever heard a Prince song was in 1979.The song was,of course,"I Wanna Be Your Lover".I thought it was okay,but it didn't really make me a fan.But when I heard the rest of the album,I was hooked.

When Doves Cry ...when it first came out I was watching some music video show on Uk tv, and was spellbound.

I remember it just like it was yesteday. It was 'Sexy Dancer.' I actually heard the song when it was played on Soul Train. What was really funny was that there was this dance group POP LOCKING to the song. That was the shit!!!! That was 1979 - I was nine years old.

Yep. I was 10 years old, in my front yard with my neighbor Melanie. We were rollerskating and she had her little boom-box out there and WLOL was playing "Delirious." I was hooked!!!!!

i was 7 years old, it was 1979 and my aunt was playing "BAMBI" on the record player. i asked her 2 play it again. she was like, "u know this is PRINCE don't u?", he sings the other 2 songs u love, "I WANNA BE YOUR LOVER" & "SOFT AND WET". she then proceeded 2 show me his picture on both FOR YOU and PRINCE. i was hooked with the photo of him naked on the PEGASUS. he has been a major force in my life ever since.

I don't remember the first time I heard Prince but I remember when I first really *listened*. My friend brought over Lovesexy, he put it on and cranked up the volume and soon the intro to " no" started together some crackle (vinyl, if you kids remember that). It built up such an excitement in me and then we listened for the whole a-side straight. After that I was hoOked!
I also very much remember the albums I got after that (black album boot and batman) I put everything aside and just listened to them from begining to end. Those were the times sigh...
