Yes actually why not? I could care less about his personal life.. but it IS A VERY IMPORTANT FOOTNOTE in that SINCE THE SETTLEMENT... what has happened to his profit margin?? And more importantly for music lovers.. why he quickly went from a gigantic poster in Times Square to bailing out of a comeback project with Clive Davis and then diving into the dark ages over at kingdom hall.

Its a very important question.. when if the Rave album is so full of heavy crap about his "loss of control of his wife" and the settlement negotiations may have concluded when the bottom line was drawn before or after the announcement was made. Why then did he take his music club and during years two and three, drive it into the toilet and turn it into a religious cult?

Another important question in Prince's quest for his masters... if Prince gets his master recordings back from AOL/TW.. is Mayte entitled to half ? You bet your ass she is.. If Prince re-records them.. is she entitled to anything? Nope! See how his whole world revolves around the settlement?

It might also be asked why since Prince usually pens how he feels in events in his life within the lyrics of his albums.. then why are there no words in NEWS or Xpectation? back to back with CNOTE. Why did the celebrations stop? When the bills are paid and the overhead is taken care of with the release of the DVD or a TOUR.. is there an accountant somewhere with an eye on how much profit he can freely (below a certain line) make each year without having to pay the X-wife more? Maybe.

....like i said before... "interesting thread"

I read that she got the house in Spain and $250,000 a year for the next 20 years. I think the House in Spain was valued around 6 million so this would mean her settlement was around 11,000,000 give or take. Not bad.

Thats how claims work. She can claim ANYTHING.. and she legally has the power to drag him back to any courtroom singing "It ain't over, It ain't over!"

It happened to me a few times. You'd be surprised!

In most states Mayte would be entitled to half of the income
from music composed during the marriage.
She would have no claim on music composed before the marriage.

Interesting that you believe that she is entitled to half of anything he recorded before their marriage, items he did not own. If he re-recorded them today, she does not get half. She is not in the picture, other than maybe in monetary terms.

Once again, Prince's fans are speculating on stuff they don't know anything about. Sure, we've all heard various rumours on here (Prince was cheating with Mani, Mayte was cheating with that kid from Michael Jackson's videos, etc, etc), but the fact of the matter is this: neither of them have ever said what caused their marriage to end. On the same note, neither has ever disclosed what sort of alimony or what not was involved, or whether or not they had a pre-nup. All in all, we don't know, and its really none of our business. Sure, many folks care about them, because we feel we know them from Prince's music, but in reality we do not. Obviously, they've both chosen to keep it private, as is their right. To analyse it further is an exercise in futility.

Here's how this soap opera went down:

Mayte did cheat on Prince. But Mayte's cheating didn't start until long after Prince's. Prince was so bold with his cheating that he put his mistress, Mani, on his payroll as his personal assistant. Plus he was having flings on the side, most noteworthy being his fuck-em-and-leave-em thing with Mel from the Spice Girls. Meanwhile, Mistress Mani was parading around Paisley Park like she already owned the place. Mayte got fed up and went to Spain and started screwing around with some dancer dude named Joaquin.

Then Prince held a news conference announcing that he and Mayte were dissolving their marriage because they didn't believe in CONtracts, but they would remain together spiritually and emotionally without the bondage of a CONtract. After this, Prince stepped up his cheating, openly being seen holding hands and cuddling with Mani. Mayte came back to the states and started fucking around with a 18-year-old kid, Wade Robson, who at the time was a choreographer for N'Sync. Gossip columns had a field day publishing reports of Mayte and Wade partying it up.

Then, according to another NY gossip column, the shit hit the fan after Mayte was seen boozing and dancing it up with a group of fashionistas in a nightclub. Prince supposedly went ballistic in this club, I think it might be called Liquid, and demanded that Mayte leave the club. Mayte refused and they got into a loud screaming argument that was seen by many people. That was last report of them being together -- the screaming at each other at the club in New York. A while after the New York club fight, Mayte started showing up in the gossip columns linked with Tommy Lee...and that was officially the end of Prince and Mayte. eek

My friends.. even WITH A PRENUP if Mayte hires a "good enough legal team".. "anything can happen" and even if the music was composed before they were married.. she sincerely does have claim to up to half of the determined value of the music. Even if the music is not currently owned by Prince. It happens. I know its hard to swallow, but god forbid if you're ever in Prince's shoes.. (or mine) or anyone who has potential earnings or royalty or stocks held by a third party, ANY claim can be put in motion. smile Its the sad truth that in divorce claims nothing is safe down to the last wooden nickel.

Funny how most Orgers are so QUICK to assume that Mayte was the cause of the breakup! Thank you laylow03 for the info. I had actually heard about that nightclub incident soon after it happened...they actually reported it on Univision (Spanish TV) 'cuz I think that one of their reporters happened to be there.

To all you Mayte-haters, enuff is enuff already! She was his wife, and now she is not. Stop being so freakin' jealous and hateful. Prince ain't no saint. The man just discovered monogamy in his 40's for Chr*st's sake!

Mayte was his wife regardless, and as such, is ENTITLED to a freakin' settlement. Whatever she got...the house, the money...she deserved.

No such thing as "too late" in these matters. God, don't y'all know ANYTHING about mutual estate settlements in that they are never completely FINAL.

In fact.. because there is an active business involved (NPG Records, Paisley Park, or its holdings) there may not have been a complete settlement. Every year when Prince files his taxes the bottom line of an active settlement might change. We just don't know.

But it IS INTERESTING when we look at how Prince has been low profile distributing his music in the past years.. One would start to wonder about what has been going on his mind in relation to the status of Mayte's settlement.

Right, normally, logically and reasonably speaking she is only entitled to half of the income from the music composed "during marriage" ... in most states at least... Plus you are only talking about composed music. Savannah is also talking about "masters" mayte would be entitled to.

Well y'all know how Mayte got hooked up with Tommy Lee - This cat that worked with prince as one of the bodyguards supposedly left the compound to work for Tommy Lee - He introduced them after the Liquid incident when Mayte decided to leave Prince. He actually used to be one of the bodyguards assigned to her.

Now I find this to be a very interesting theory. We all no Prince aint no fool where money is concerend and it would seem as this would explain some of Prince's low key actions of late. I mean he did do the whole 'Slave' thing during his unhappy WB days. So this would not surprise me. Even if what you say isn't based in an ounce of fact (and I am not saying it is). I like the story it tells. But she wouldn't be entitled to half his master I mean why would she.
The thing is he had the marriage annulled he did not get a divorce. I am no lawyer but I believe that changes things a bit. Isn't there a lawyer on the org who can straighten this all out for us?

Hey,

I happen to know exactly why they divorced, HE WAS CHEATIN ON HER!!! He moved her ass to spain so she would not know what he was doin here in the states, but she knew, she had eyes and ears in the states here, friends and family that Prince was not aware of that would catch him cheating with other hoes, INCLUDING MANUELLA. As far as the divorce settlement goes, that 250K a year for 20 years is bullshit, Mayte took a lot less then she could've. She does not receive anything from Prince anymore and there divorce is final and done. While Mayte was living in Spain, Manuella was moving into the MPLS house, redecorating it to her liking. Manuella broke up the marriage, she was the straw that broke the camels back. Give him time, he will get sick of Manuella, and she will be cast away also. Prince works in cycles, every 7-10 years he cleans everybody out of his life, and replaces them. Look at his track record. So all you female fans out there, don't be upset, like Manuella, who used to post on this very forum, your day will probably come soon. Hang in there, and Manuella, if you read this, that house up in bridal path in toronto, that is your future, because it is all your gonna have from this marriage in a few years. The best is, Prince and Manuella are not even legally married, they are married in the eyes of Jehovah, but they never had a legal ceremony, there is no CONTRACT, so if they split up, she gets nothing but the house in toronto, which is under her name. Ok, got that off my chest, hope it clears some stuff up.

Peace

OK, just wanna correct this story here, as far as Mayte cheating, she never cheated with Jauqin, they were friends, that magazine HELLO reported it, and since when is HELLO a respected magazine?

As far as Wade goes, Mayte did not start seeing Wade until the divorce was finalized with Prince, she did not even meet him until after the divorce was done.

As far as that nightclub story goes, it is bullshit, I WAS THERE THAT NIGHT(the club is called Float by the way)!!! I was there with Mayte that night, her and Prince never even saw each other, I went over to Aaron, Prince's bodyguard, and asked them to leave because Mayte did not want to see Prince. He had gone to Float because he knew Mayte was hangin out there and he was looking for her. We were hanging out upstairs chillin and the owner of the club comes over and tells us Prince is there, Mayte was still not over the whole thing, and was very upset about him being there and did not want to see him. I had went and asked Aaron to take Prince and leave(in a way that was sort of a threat, I hung out at that club all the time, and I had alot more friends there then they did) So they left, Prince and Mayte never saw one another. THE PAGE SIX COLUMN then printed the story saying there was a blowout in the club, we all know how reliable page six is. A few months later, mayte and Prince did hang out, as friends, but that was it.

As far as the Tommy Lee thing, he did not come along until a couple of years after that. She had moved out of NY already when that started up, so tommy lee had nothing to do with the break up of Prince and her.

Hope that clears up rumors that are goin around, and I should know because I was there.
