Video/Film Express is the first in the world to release the much acclaimed concertfilm Sign 'O' The Times by Prince on dvd on March 30th 2004. Holland is the only country in the world where the dvd wil be in Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS. The recommended price is 22,99 euro.

the brazilian is bootleg quality, not professional packaging, menu, sound encoding, or even picture transfer. It need to be redone correctly.

well, if U consider that the official VHS has bootleg quality (in my opinion) and the sound quality on the SOTT album is not that good 2...it doesn't bother U much...but yeah..I agree...is far from what consider good quality picture&sound cool

Ive got some more info from the site www.muziek-en-beeld.nl (a really reliable source for the Dutch entertainment-industry).

They write that the material Video/Film Express got (from MCA? Paisley?) had mono-sound, but they managed to find another audiotrack of a better quality. The made the 5.1 and DTS-mix from that track.

Here's the original text from www.muziek-en-beeld.nl

Dumb question? Is there a PAL/NTSC conversion issue even for DVDs ?

Yup, even for DVDs. You can buy a region-free DVD player that will play both formats, but those players are more expensive.

Sounds dodgy to me.

Released in one country? Doesn't make sense.

If P doesn't need Warner approval to put this out, then surely he would have it for sale at the club, to maximise his revenue. If he did need warners approval, then they are not going to let an independent release it in one country.

I guess its a boot, passing off as an original, just like the Brazilian one...

probably, they would have to get to the originaltapes to mix a 5.1 soundtrack, and why wold that be done for just one country code?

The DVD will probably be released region free. The reason for regioning is for films that may still be in theaters in one country, while another country may purchase it retail.

I think that Universal owned the rights to SOTT, not Warners. This still sounds like an unofficial release.

Video/Film Express only distributes/publishes it, they don't have to own a thing to release it, so I guess Universal (or whoever has the rights to it) gave them a deal...
Video/Film Express is a legit company that has released numerous official music DVD's (with cooperation of artists themselves) so I highly doubt it's an unofficial/bootleg release otherwise they wouldn't (be able to) advertise it...
Holland has about the tightest bootleg/illegal copy law in the world...

Isn't it a shit load of effort to go to - getting hold of a music track of better quality and ending up with Dolby digital & DTS etc...

only to release in one country?

confused

This is actually pretty standard practice...
Especially with european movies, they get an initial low-key official release in the country of production and then usually about a year later it gets a normal worldwide fullblown release...

Same thing happened here in Holland with "Pulp Fiction", the official DTS version was released here about a year before it was released in the US and UK...

biggrin i got one for me three months ago for only 70 dollars! Its great. No problems with region codes, or PAL/NTSC mess. I think the brand is United or Bayer or smthg else... some cheap brand anyway, but nice!

I cant understand why there has to be different regions??? What is the point and who is getting the benefit?

Well, example:

"21 Grams" has just been released on DVD in the US whereas in the UK and other european countries it opens tomorrow or the whereabouts in theatres... You do the math...
