What went wrong....on stage

What things did you witness during concerts, that weren't suppose to happen. What I've seen:

- The balloons that wouldn't come out of the net @ Minneapolis 31-12-87 (saw that on video)
- The stagebanner with the NPG logo that came down during the Brussels concert in '98. Showing us a nice brick wall
- The keyboard falling of stage at that same concert
- Princee bumping his head against a speaker at the Marquee aftershow.
- 100 - 200 white balloons on stage @ Rotterdam 02-11-02. Not an accident ofcourse, but he didn't see that one coming. Apparantly he liked it, because there's a picture of us (the crowd) with the balloons in the Backstage Room at the NPGMC.

Any more?

Prince falling flat on his fanny during the Nude tour, when it was raining like hell on the opening dates.

Bumping his nose into the microphone stand in one of the numerous experience shows I saw.

Most often I just love it when band members miss a cue, like last October when he called out; "One the one!" and Maceo missed the cue.
Prince's head, snapped around and that look! Oh my. He can be a viscious little person sometimes.

London Hyppodrome aftershow in 1998 (or maybe actually the Astoria aftershow in 1995) actually I don't remember during which song this happened, anyway Prince was playing his guitar quite wildly then he gave a cue to the band and when they all had to turn down the noise he hit one of the pedals for the guitar and his guitar sort of roared, so he immediately hit another pedal with a feline jump... sort of...

London Wembley Stadium July 1993: he played part of the "She's always in my hair" solo with one broken string on his guitar (we could clearly see it dangle).

His sleeve got caught on the mic stand at the MTV awards during get off and he had to untangle it.
Edinborough,Scotland when Mayte was being lowered on the swing(we were to assume it was Prince cos she was dressed like him and she wore the hat with the chains)when she jumped off she fell flat on her ass.
Levi's hat almost blew off too.

London Hyppodrome aftershow 1998: during "Days of Wild" Prince got on the keys that were on our righthand side of the stage. He wanted to play something funky to the rhythm of the song but as soon as he touched the keys the amplification on the right sort of blew and fucked up all the bass-sounds coming from our right... this sounded more or less like a very loud WWWAAAMMM! Prince actually jerked, then he turned to the back of the stage were all the technicians were with that look in his eyes, he looked at them, then waved at them, then he started pulling down his fingers with the other hand and stopped as soon as he had his forefinger and his middle finger up in a Victory sing, but then he turned his hand he pulled his forefinger down and gave them the Finger (this is how you call it, don't you?).

London Hyppodrome aftersho 1998: they had huge problems with the microphones. When Larry came onstage his microphone wasn't working at all. So Prince decided to give him the microphone he was using: fact is that he was on the keys and had a microphone whose wire was rolled up on the stick (?) and he started trying to unroll it... actually I don't remember how this ended.

Oh... another one: I clearly remember Prince during the beginning of the Astoria aftershow in 1995 turning to the side-scene complaining both verbally and with gestures because he couldn't hear his guitar from the speaker in front of him (I remember reading his lips saying :"I can't hear what I play")... but he went on playing... oh, what a man!wink

In Chicago during the Lovesxy tour (Sept.17 1988- my first time seeing him, by the way) at the end of the guitar solo for "Sister" it kinda went out abruptly, and he got so pissed that he threw the guitar (the blue angel) down on the ground omg , then walked over to get it, undid a strap on the back of his leg (remember the "Hansel & Grettel" outfit?) TIED the guitar to his calf omfg and then proceeded to DRAG it around as if to punish it for going out!!! All the while ranting and screaming about "why is it women always thnk you're doin' someone else??" for about 10 min. IT WAS AWESOME!!!

...But, DAMN, what a freak!!! (and that's why i love him.)

During the 1998 performance with Larry and Chaka on the Today Show (is it the today show the one when they play in the street?) when they were playing "Release yourself" Prince and Larry started jumping and you can clearly see Prince pulling up his pants as they are dangerously slipping down.

During one of the shows in London in 1995 (either March 3rd or 5th or 8th which are the ones I attended) they were playing "P control" and as every night Prince unzipped his high-waist pants halfway to pull them down and turn them into low-waist pants: this time also I could clearly see that nervous look in his eyes when he realized he had unzipped them too much and fixed the situation fast.

Emancipation concert - Wembley Arena (can't remember the year!) - P had started 2 sing 1999 and Mayte was suppose to come onto stage and upto P's mike at the point where he '...the sky was on purple...' but mayte came on 2 late and missed the first part of the line!

Sacrifice of Victor Time - London, P had finished playing on his piano and indicated to the guitar tech guy 2 hand him a guita, but as he was handing P the guitar, the strings broke! So P had 2 go and do some more piano stuff...the guitar tech guy looked pretty scared afta that.

One more...Hippodrome London Aftashow...P was singing and asked for Marva Kings backing vocals 2 be turned up...the sound technician guy didn't seem 2 do it so P said 'I'll do it myself'. He was playing and mixing the sound all at the same time...not technically someting that went wrong...but a cool experience though.

Someone started to mention this above, but a further explanation of the Gett Off MTV music video awards performance:

P had on the yellow lacey outfit with the see-through ass. The intro of the song started, he did some dancing, jumped to a lower level of the stage, and grabbed the mic to start the first verse. The lace on his long sleeves got caught on the mic, and he went to put his arms at his side and the mic almost fell over. He did a nifty little move to unhook his sleeve and played it off well.

The Grammy's in 1985:

When Prince performed "Baby I'm A Star", he took of his cape and it accidently hit the mic stand and the stand began to fall. He caught it right before it hit the ground and when he brought it up to sing, the stand hit him square in the jaw.

It was still one of the best TV performances I've ever seen.

Another classic, the knocking down of the streetlight on stage after the Michael Jackson / James Brown / Prince performance...
Brabanthallen 95, during the first song (Endorphinmachine) the mic didn't work, so that song was almost completely instrumental...great guitarwork though
Lenny Kravitz on stage in Utrecht '98, playing the wrong key and being corrected by Prince. Later on Lenny broke a string and had to get a new guitar after a few secs trying to play it still
