Just One Song and Why

I really enjoy when those on the org list a song they are currently listening to. (It was an ongoing topic.) It's great to "dust that song off the shelf" and hear it again. I am curious what your one favorite Prince song is. Not a listing of favorite Prince songs, but your one favorite. It's hard. Your friends and family know that you are a big Prince fan. If they were to ask you, "What is your favorite Prince song?" What would you say?

I think that I would choose "The Love We Make." It is a real gem off the Emancipation album and a song that I have not overlistened to. It is an emotional song for me. How about you? Remember, just one.

Broken record here but I have just been stuck on the screams of passion the prince demo version, recently. But like you said it's difficult to choose one the song, it really depends on my mood. I think I have a list in my profile. Definitively, I would say 'when we're dancing close and slow' because after he passed away I was listening to that song and memories came back of when I first heard it when I was about 15 16 and I just broke down, that song just brings me back to how he's been there for me my entire life and his music, so if anything, I would say that that song has significance to me. I cried every month or every other month for almost a year, what got me through it, was I know the P wouldn't want us to be sad and he wouldn't want us to cry so I keep myself together for that but I'm just glad that he's in a better place and he's not afflicted with any pain, anymore. Sorry if I made any one sad but I just wanted to share that.
Eye wanna make Love to U,
2 times maybe 3,
If u want to go 4 or 5,
Baby that's alright with me,
eye will be your little baby,
eye can be your big strong man....

Crystal Ball, because it is a trip to listen to. I had not heard it before the CB cd package came out in 1998, and it was a thrill!

In hindsight I believe Prince overdone it a bit with the sound effects, but still a very impressive song, I love the orchestration on this track.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

It would be impossible for me to name my favourite Prince song. My opinions on these kinds of things changes so regularly that I could name one song now and by the time I click "post response" I will have changed my mind.

So rather than name my favourite song, I'll just say that the most IMPORTANT Prince song for me is Fury. The reason it's the most important song is because that was the song that got me into Prince in the first place. I was 15 when that song came out and at that time, despite my boyfriend being a huge Prince fan, I never really listened to Prince. Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi and George Michael were my favourite artists but during that time I was kind of expanding my horizons and listening to old 80s rock bands a lot. So when I heard Fury in all its guitar/synth glory, it made me curious to check out more Prince stuff. By that time I had split up with my boyfriend but we remained close friends and he gave me his entire Prince collection and the rest is history. But it was Fury that started me off on the purple rollercoaster.

Adore.

One of his cleanest falsetto efforts vocally.

Such a poignant and focused effort conceptually.

Very colorful and clever lyrically. ("Love" being too weak)

That bridge is sex in the form of music. (instrumentation and vocal layering)

The sprinkle of humor. ("Well, maybe not the ride")

Not hard for me: Anna Stesia.

I don't need to dust it off, becuase I listen to it all the time.

The reason is simple... of all the songs in his catalogue, this song had the deepest impact on me, my spirit and my life. The world was completely different (and remains so) after this song.

Scandalous.
I was 3 when Batman came out and it was the first movie I saw in a theatre.
I always thought the music was great, and as a teenager the lyrics grew on me.
.
I found the music video great too : it is really minimalist ( only Prince in red in front of a black screen) but so entertaining at the same time.

My answer, today, is Pop Life (Fresh Dance Mix)

A perfect Prince song.

Simple lyrics that still make you think a bit.

Catchy groove that sounds like nothing else.

Great instrumentation.

By the time you've read this I've changed my song. lol

The UK version is the very best. Those lyrics are great.

Just beautiful.

because I'm still in love with New York

released: ALL THE CRITICS LOVE U IN NEW YORK
It felt like quiet motion at night time, on the road, city lights, highway lights. A little dangerous a quiet cocky hopefulness

unreleased: LEAVING 4 NEW YORK
feels like we have the whole world ahead of us. quiet, feels like the dawn or twilight. a suburban lawn.

Today I choose She's Always in my Hair (12" Version).

Awesome.

The title might suggest that Prince is making a criticsm, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

This song is an absolute love letter to your significant other who always pushes you to be a better version of yourself and ALWAYS lets you know you're NEVER in this life on your own.

I'll put these lyrics up against just about any love song.

I ALWAYS daydream about my wife while this song plays. Every time.

I don't have one right now to name myself, but I just wanted to comment on your favorite: The Love We Make.

This song holds a special place in my heart for being the last "live" song I heard Prince perform. Detroit 2015, it was the final song of the encore.

There were some pre-recorded songs playing over the speakers as the crowd was leaving the theater, but The Love We Make was the last live one.

First and only time I'd heard it live.

Thanks for sharing!

"My Love Is Forever", will always be the answer to this question...the synergy of the guitar and synths...the melody...Prince's pure, hungry falsetto... the Santana-esque guitar soloing...the synth solo that follows the guitar solo seamlessly..... the background vocal/adlibs.... perfect song...should /could have been his debut single

The Ballad Of Doroty Parker = number 1, for now, for today at least.

But I have to say, 'Crystal Ball' & 'Cloreen Bacon Skin' and 'It' are on my mind too with this numer 1.

-

Oh god there's at least a couple of dozen I can't choose from for number 2... just imagine these:

-

'I Wanna Be Your Lover'

'Party Up'

'Darling Nikki'

'Computer Blue (extended)'

'The Beautifu Ones'

'Condition Of The Heart'

'All The Critics Love U In New York'

'Automatic'

'International Lover'

'Alphabet St.'

'When 2 R In Love'

'Superfunkycalifragisexy'

'2 Niggs United 4 West Compton'

'Bob George'

'Mountains'

'Erotic City'

for fuck's sake the whole damn Parade album...

And these are aaaaaall number 2's !

-

Now, number 3: ...
