Would get rid of the "stoner" character voice in "Now".

All that's required is the replacement of 'We March' with 'Days of Wild'. 'We March' was a late addition to the album anyway and likely would not have been included if the album had been released earlier as Prince intended.

Prince's decision to drop 'Days of Wild' from the set so close to release is a mystery to me. I remember at least one UK review that mentioned the track,so it was definitely on some promo copies. I wonder if Prince had other plans for the track that simply didn't materialise? A shame, as 'Days of Wild' defined that entire era for me and was very much its anthem live.

Which version of Days of Wild did he have on there, do we know?

Acknowledge Me

Add the missing NPG Operator segues. Lose the Endorphinemachine cowbell.

Maybe remove We March. I don't dislike it as much as most people do.

Pretty sure I'm over 80 mins eek

Same. I don't get the hate for We March either. It's a weaker track but only in context of what surrounds it. Conversely, I don't get the total love for Dolphin. It's OK but, man, them lyrics are corny. I poked over to Wikipedia just to refrresh myself on the track list and...man...it's a really strong record.

I think the title track is one of his more underrated in that category too. He was obviously aiming at an anthem (again) and, while "Gold" falls a little short, it's a pretty great track. I used to LOVE P Control in my 20's but now not so much. It's a weird lead off track too since it doesn't really set the tone for the rest of the album. Interactive would be a better opening song (you're rigth) and, the older I get, P Control feels more like a b-side, tbh.

Burying Days of Wild is a crime though. And fuck the haters because "NOW" is a banger.

And, wait...you're saying to ADD segues? Hard and strong disagree on all that. Prince fucked up more albums with that goofy shit than I'd care to remember (Love Symbol, The Rainbow Children, Exodus and Gold). They're funny and cute the first time (sometimes) but really mess up the flow on repeated listens and lord if I don't have a custom CD that removes that crap from all those albums.

Odd to think too that on his Big Serious Artistic Statement, Lovesexy, he made it all one track but at the same time included zero seques.

TGE probably holds up the best from every album in his 90's catalog and makes a strong argument for the top five.

Yeah I'm in the minority about the segues. I just happen to like them, even on some songs where they imply a user-error or "glitch". Goes with the whole "Interactive" theme. Maybe not on every song, but maybe add 1-2 in the album.

I do not care for the Love Symbol album segues. Yes, it's a concept album, but that album feels like there are 2 concepts going on.

The shorter studio version apparently.
.
If that was on there and maybe an edit of Acknowledge Me, minus the rap mentioning time of the month and titties swinging like a door as broadcast in TBE movie, it would be sheer perfection

Yeah, I don't think loving "Days of Wild" is a controversial opinion and most people around here would put amongst his funkiest tracks I believe.

Listen to his released albums in order and the opening one two punch of P Control and Endorphinmachine are a welcome jolt of energy (and i say that as someone who thinks Come is a better record), but man, it's just overproduced to hell. Pretty much every song on it I prefer every alternate version I've heard. I look at the tracklist and it's such a strong record but i can't bring myself to put it on. There's no space in it, everything is revved up to a million.

I can agree with this but will say it's one of the things I actully like about the album. I think the production is quite good and adds another layer to the sound but I get where you're coming from.

I usually dig when Prince goes full on mad scientist mode and shows off but get why one's mileage might vary in that regard.

Yeah,I was disappointed when I saw the final tracklist.I had been enjoying “Days Of Wild” for many months. It was on a bootleg cassette that I obtained in ‘94.It’s such a great song.I think even the hip-hop fans would have been bobbing their heads to this jam.

Yeah, I mean, it represents what he was feeling at the time and ultimately that's what matters. I'd like more alternate versions to be officially released but it's a cohesive album as it stands.

I wouldn't change it at all except for maybe the cover art. If I had one gripe about Prince's physical releases, it would be the art work in some cases. This cover art here makes it difficult to look at the images.

Otherwise, it's a great album. Top 5 for me.

Personally i would add "Interactive" as a nice rocker instead of P Control. I would open with the brilliance of Endorphinmachine (without cowbells)

Keep: 319, Shy, TMBGITW, Gold, Dolphin

Add: Interactive, Love Sign The Ride

Remove: P Control, Now (even though its a guilty pleasure)

For me the whole period is a mess. We don’t even get the single version of tmbgitw. If it was possible to delete the whole album I’d be tempted.

Yeah... the Love Symbol album and this one are two LPs that could have been really great, but got kind of butchered by Prince's pretensions and (in the latter case) battles with Warners.

As ever with Prince, there was enough first-rate material for a great album in 1994, but The Gold Experience is not a great album -- it's just a 'good' album, with some bad moments mixed in with several great ones. The "NPG Operator" segues are annoying and were never going to age well. I don't think the album starts well, as "Pussy Control" is funny but too silly for an artist at age 36 or whatever, and I have never been able to get into "Endorphinmachine" (Prince seemed to love this song and played it all the time - however, it annoys me when it's on and I have to switch it off).

The album improves from there, and the last three songs are the best three.
