Batman Film Premiere?

Did Prince ever attend the huge star studded Batman film premiere or did he just get his own private screening since he was working on the film?

Your question doesn't make sense. "Did he just get his own private screening since he was working on the film". The film was done, ergo the premiere. He can't be working on something that is done.

The premiere is the 'private screening' for industry, including actors, producers, directors, media, and all other related personnel.

Hell, if anyone deserved a private screening it was Keaton or Nicholson. But, I can't imagine Prince not eventually seeing the movie somewhere with friends.

I misworded it wrong...

What I meant by private screeing, was, when he was working on the album he was obviously seeing some of the scenes already cut and put together, inorder to be inpsired to create and work on the album. For example he took many audio parts from the movie and he saw probably rough edits or final edits of certain scenes, which made me wonder if he saw the finished movie in advance...

He didn't attend the star studded premiere after I just did some research, he was in London that day for the Nude Tour.

I don't think Prince was there, but he sure did dress Kim with the outfit he and the band were wearing

Kim Basinger and brother during "Batman" Los Angeles Premiere at Mann Village theater in Westwood, California, United States.

Looks like she's wearing one of those oh so popular "trip strips" (as they were called in my neck of the woods) on her left wrist biggrin They were all the rage back then. Now I think they call them "Friendship Bracelets", and they are a trend for younger girls.

Interesting trivia - Kim B was a last minute replacement to play Vicki Vale. Sean Young had the role, but was in a bad horseback riding accident and had to quit the film. Man, I bet she is still bummed about that situation!!

he had a private screening of a draft of the movie before he wrote any of the music. He came back with music and a score, they obviously didn't use his score.

I thought I had read that he spent time on the set while they were filming?? He would watch the Director and he met Kim B on the set as well.

We could just ask a certain person on the ORG who used to run movies for Prince at the movie theater in Minnesota. The only question is when did they start doing that?

Ahh, interesting. My guess is he started that at some point in the 80’s after PR when he couldn’t go anywhere without attracting a mob scene.

In his 1986 interview with Electrifying Mojo, after the Detroit birthday show, he said they were all getting ready to go watch Purple Rain. So, I’m sure he closed down a theatre there.

He had just cone from the 6/7 birthday show, so he was still in Detroit. He called the station from his hotel room. Toward the end of the interview he said, “I gotta go..their knocking on my door”.

Mojo asked him when he was going to view it, and Prince said in 3 minutes, they are knocking on my door now. I doubt he'd be able to get to a theater in 3 min. Unless transcripts have the years mixed up.

.

That interview was in 1985. The eve of his birthday 6.7.1985 which was the Masquerade Ball in St Paul Minnesota.
.
The interview was by phone, on the radio. THE ELECTRIFYING MOJO (1985)

.

You're thinking the 1986 Detroit Parade tour birthday show
I doubt Purple Rain was still in theaters in 1986 (UTCM was his next move)

.

.

.

On the eve of his birthday in 1985, Prince gave a surprise interview to legendary Detroit disc jockey the Electrifying Mojo. He had never offered a live radio interview before. Of the experience, Mojo later said:"I had no idea he was going to call. I had no list of questions or anything like that. First I talked to Billy Sparks and he said, 'Hey Mojo! Prince wants to talk to you. You got a minute?' I said, 'Do I have a minute? Give me a minute to make sure we have a tape on,' and Prince says, 'Hey Mojo! What's happening? This is Prince.' If I hadn't heard Billy Sparks' voice prior to that, I may have said, 'Yeah, right.'"

MOJO: Let's talk about the album, Around The World In A Day... which I think was one of the greatest albums.

PRINCE: My favorite!

All I know from Dye's interview is that he was sent dailies to work with, and that he showed those dailies to his crew, and that Miko and TC used those to write TC's Batrap that they released independently as a 12'' (https://www.discogs.com/T...se/1663878), and that this led to WB wondering "how does that rapper know our script b4 the movie is out", and that they told P "you sign this MF or we will", so P signed TC just so he could get him b4 they did, that same TC who'd been asking him for a deal for years, sort of like as shown in the GB movie with TC begging P to let him rap. SO P hadn't seen the final film before it was finalized, but he'd seen bits and pieces and probably had been given the script.

He may have been receiving dailies at a certain point but I know I read that he also spent time on the set watching them film. He first met Kim B and Jack Nicholson on set. It was written that he watched the filming process like a hawk - I’m sure to learn more for his GB project.

I live near Pinewood Studios and he attended the film set and as the local paper reported he was on site and had interviews with the stage hands. He was also given a preview of some of the film hence Partyman, 200 balloons, Trust etc

At the time. Prince and Kim Basinger was dating. I am assuming that Prince and Basinger went to the premiere of Batman together. Or Prince could be out of town touring.

Dates and discussions are not matching. If Mojo had a discussion with Prince in June 1986 Parade would have been out. Parade was released March 1986. I don't think Mojo would have praised ATWIAD and not mention Parade.
.
And for Prince to still be excited about Purple Rain in 1986 when he was already on Under the Cherry Moon, which was about to be released July 2nd 1986. ATWIAD was released April 22, 1985

.

I believe because the Masquerade Ball 1985 birthday show was such a secret(we don't even have photographs or video of this show. That people just to June 1986 to label the interview.

Did MOJO do two interviews one in 1985 and one in 1986? Or did he mash up two interviews?

questions questions I have questions...

Pretty sure the interview I referred to was after the June 7th 1986 birthday show in Detroit. I love this interview. You can hear how happy Prince is and he’s on cloud 9 after that huge birthday show. Mojo just happened to ask him about ATWIAD in terms of why he went that direction. Mojo asks about UTCM which was about one month away from release. Prince also mentions his hotel room and how the bed is hard.
*
My guess is that he and his crew were going to watch PR on video in someone’s suite or a theatre was going to play it for them. Prince used to rent shuttles to take groups of his friends and associates to watch movies. I’m sure he was doing that by 1986.

He on the regular would rent out a theater to watch a movie for himself and friends (after closing hours). The person on the org used to be the individual running the films and staying late for Prince.

Mojo asked him whether he liked making records or films more, and Prince said he thought they were very similar but films were more work - or something to that affect. * Pretty sure that particular interview was right after that Detroit show.

Here’s the YT video of the full interview. Prince specifically states that he wanted to come to Detroit and do his birthday show there... * https://youtu.be/p0EVcCPOrnQ

The actual video was posted? Using my iPhone screen instead of my PC the last couple of days, so it’s hard to catch every post. Wasn’t someone questioning whether that interview was done in 1985 or 1986 because they talk about ATWIAD and him watching PR?
*
When you listen to the interview it’s clear that Mojo was just mentioning ATWIAD because it was his favorite album, and he asked Prince what made him go in that direction, to which Prince responded that he sort of had an “F You” attitude and wanted to do his own thing. Prince being in Detroit for his birthday concert was also confirmed by him stating they played Automatic and talking about the hard bed his hotel room, and how he wanted to come to Detroit to show his love because the city has always shown him love. Then when Prince mentioned he was about to watch PR Mojo said “okay let’s get everyone in Detroit to turn on their VCRs and watch PR.

Most of the diehards have heard this interview billions of time, and are aware that it was the 1986 birthday show. Had mojo asked about Soft And Wet, it would not have made the interview 1978. But as an extreme die hard, I have to be careful not to go "Bart Van Halen" on anyone for making an honest mistake. However, I still cringe when someone says "Prince Roger Nelson,' Or When someone says "Anna STAY JHA" instead of "Anna STEESIA." Of course, after years of Prince singing and saying "STEESIA" he once referred to the song as "Anna STAY JHA." I wanted to remind Prince he sings and says "STEESIA," and "Anna STAY JA" is a old Disney movie or something lol.

I went to journalism school, which of course makes me an expert. Get a copy of the 1996 Ebony Magazine. It clearly states Purple Rain sold 100 million copies. Mistakes are everywhere. Prince did not perform Automatic in 1985. It was clearly after a Parade Show. Haven't listened to it in over 20 years, but will again to be sure.

What are you talking about ?

hey, I said I was over this.

I'm just stating that people have posted in these various places that it was 1985

PrinceText has been out for a long time, and had it lasted as 1985 in the early 2000s

There is no reason to go there, no one is calling your 'profession' into question
