Ya know, guys. More people would be reading if you'd quit arguing.

What we non-techies want (in the OP) is: how do we get this in a region free issue and from where, that's in English.

Thank you.

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Yes, if it’s a German only release I’m screwed. I understood Udo’s post #30 but that’s about as far as I get with German biggrin

#30 was in Dutch, not German for my part.

What Bart's info hinted at that the player should be region free.

.

Sheesh, the doc is in English. AS STATED IN THE FIRST POST, directly from the people making it.

.

Whether it will be region free, that's still unknown, though one of the replies from their Facebook post suggests this might be a region-locked disc. That still means this disc can be played all over Europe.

.

WRT importing discs: Google it. Plenty of companies sell import discs, of you can buy them via Amazon Germany. I really don't get why you lot cannot figure such basic shit out yourself and need to have your hand held.

.

As to getting this documentary (and the other bonus features) available elsewhere: the first post has a link to the relevant Facebook post from the company who is actually working on this disc. perhaps it will help if you friendly inform them that you are in country X and would love to obtain this documentary. If they see a lot of such requests perhaps they can sell it to other companies by showing there is an interest. But BE FRIENDLY AND POLITE.

The producer answering to an American guy that you'd be better off with a region-free player anyway means that this release will be region-locked to Europe.

PURPLEIZED3121

Thanks for the updates. Seems to be mixed messages on extra lie content. Let's be honest the 'ultimate package' should consist of pro-shot live footage, rehearsals etc...suspect that might be wayyyy too much to hope for given the state of the estate, legals etc. That said, this still looks like a must have in our collection.

It was clearly stated before that the estate is not involved in this, therefore I've no idea why you'd even hope for any unreleased material. There won't be any.

I'm not. lol
It looks great tho.
Guess I'll be selling the Canadian DVD and my Japanese Bluray set and probably this one too in a while after a superdeluxe edition arrives from The Estate lol
Who would have thought that after years of buying really bad releases in the 80's and 90's of this movie we'd get a slew of reaaly great releases.
The 2K remeaster I saw 2 years ago in the theater was amazing so I hope this one is at least as good as that was.

Wait!
A BluRay with only HD video?! eek

Why not rescan the film and do the remaster from a higher resolution source?

For me the only BluRay benefit is the 2.0 uncompresed audio. (the reason for owning the LD)

Or did I miss anything?

.

(yes, I did order...)

Because... as it has been discussed here a dozen times already... the estate is NOT involved in this release therefore the company who produced this had no access to the original film or video masters (and it would've cost a fortune to work from those anyway). That's why.

As with The Most Beautful Girl In The World, I feel the Sign O'The Times movie has always sat outside of clear ownership.

As a consequence no one really knows what to do with it and any activity is usually met with low investment due to the high risk involved, and naturally, poor access to quality resources - hence the shocking DVD releases.

Part of me wishes the global rights would come under the control of the Estate. Naturally I'm assuming this would attract the most investment and access to vault material such as images from the tour and naturally any extra video or audio.

Yet sadly time has shown an Estate run project doesn't necessarily quarantee top quality - as perhaps only a true fan would labour over the quality of such a release.

However, for once and for all, I wish there was a concerted effort to create a final and definitive version of this paramount Prince project - as too many independents have tinkered and failed.

cool

As much as I love this movie I think it would be a monumental task (with a huge bill) to try to recreate it from scratch even if the rights would be with the Estate, and I'm not sure it's worth it as it's not a true, live concert film.
I'd much more prefer to be able to buy genuine live concert movies on BluRay. I'll still buy this release and I can hardly wait for it to come out, but as we all saw it for a hundred times already, I think it's time to move on to the unseen concerts.

How about the documentary? I could listen to Susan Rogers all day long. Wondering who else will be featured.

I.o.w.: the estate is too involved with internal litigation and what not that they are unable to grab an opportunity at monetizing some assets within a reasonable timeframe.

They cost millions and the benefit is negative.

This is the plain truth until proven otherwise.

Thanks very much for pointing that out.

.

Because I do have a SOTT bluray somewhere here. Perhaps a Japanese one too.

So we have the HD video, some PCM audio too.

So what would this company say to me when they would be trying to sell this bluray set?

The documentary? Sure.

But what did I overlook that is a must buy argument now? (yes, I might have been too quick)

You'll either need a region-free BR-player (or a BR-player from Europe) or you'll need to wait for somoeone to upload the discs' contents to the torrent sites...
