Has this been remastered in any way?

It was released in 1999 not 1983. So based on the price and just using common sense, I would say no possible way would they remaster it. Now I think the original mastering is a bit loud, but most "remastered" music just means they make it as loud as possible, and so loud it is distorted. So nothing after 1994 has any real need to be remastered. Now somebody who cared about sound quality was in the Prince camp, I'd love to have the post 1995 albums mastered properly. AOA and especially Plectrum Electrum sound really bad. Some of the U2 remasters sound fantastic. The first run of Duran Duran remasters sound pretty good, and then the deluxe ones with dvds sound worse than anything I have ever heard.

[Edited 5/7/19 17:42pm]

Can't speak to the CD versions, but the vinyl editions are different masterings from the original editions... they sound rich and warm, and without the brickwalling and overly loud volume that was present on the originals. These are the definitive versions of these albums now, for me.

I did post this earlier in the thread.

Also, whether something is from 1983 or 1999 has absolutely nothing to do with whether it needs remastering or not. If an album was released in 2017 and was brickwalled, or poorly mastered, then it needs a remaster.... it's not about the age of an album, it's about how it was mastered in the first place.

It's kinda amazing how you keep posting absolute nonsense.

I forgot. If it says remastered, it is perfect. See Duran Duran's Notorious remaster, or the second Rio one. Fine job, if you like the soul sucked out of the album. I guess I did forget to mention that some remasters are decent, but then again, I think I did praise U2's. Having Josh Warts work on Purple Rain is a perfect example of a poor remaster. And there are tons more.

I'm getting this primarily for the great packaging (looks amazing), and also finally being able to get an affordable physical version of "IN2". Interesting they decided to reissue one of his least successful albums, however, cool release.

I'm kind of hoping they left the original mastering alone, as i feel that can take away a certain ambiance of the original, which i find i can grow attached to. I also feel this album doesn't need remastering.

Then again, if I was bored enough, I could probably find 387,212 examples of you teaching people what Google is. It was mean but funny the first time or two. After a few hundred it was something for me to have pity on you. And your inability to notice my sarcasm about the remastering process is profound.

I find it difficult to extract the discs from the box. I don't want to grab them with my greasy little paws. For me, if they had a light sleeve protector, I wouldn't complain. Otherwise, yeah, it's beautiful. gummybear penguin

i never quite understood why they don't make sleeve protectors for cd's when they're only a bit of
paper, so it's not like they'd have to add a plastic to the cardboard sleeves. it's not like cd's don't
get scratched having to pull/pulk them out of those sleeves each time neutral

I find if you slide them in upside down, it can stop them getting scratched so much

Music fans should consider staying in and watching some public television a couple Saturdays from now. Why? We R glad U asked! Local PBS affiliate WUCF will be premiering the epochal Prince concert film RAVE UN2 THE YEAR 2000.

.

Originally broadcast as a pay-per-view live on New Year's Eve 1999 at Prince's Paisley Park complex, this show sees the Purple One pulling out all the stops, ripping through “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Kiss,” “Purple Rain,” “1999” and even the Prince-penned and Sinéad O'Connor-immortalized “Nothing Compares 2 U.”

.

(This is in Orlando.)
