I dont think Prince lied when he said that Santana is much bigger influence than Hendrix

If you listen to Princes rhythm guitar work he didnt use

those Hendrix 9th chords and other embelishments done by Jimi.He was more into

Jimmy Nolen kind of rhythm guitar.

regarding soloing Prince always had some of that lyrical

Santana aprouch in his solos.

the only time he sounded like Jimi was on 1999 tour and

on some rare songs

Little trivia. in 1979 Prince was invited to visit Santanas

home but when he got there Prince didnt want to go inside Santanas house because Santana told Prince

to take off his shoes b4 coming inside lol

Never heard the "Hendrix-isms" in P's playing until much later in his career. And he really didn't get the comparisons (by music critics) to Jimi until the "PR" era..(for obvious reasons).

Lotusflower is very Hendrix influenced in my opinion. 'Dreamer' being the most obvious exemple but the whole album just has that typical Jimi vibe. Even in the vocals I can hear some resemblance...

Overall I'd say he definitely was more of a Santana fan but he sure did have some heavy Hendrix phases, mainly 2009, 2014 (those raw clips of Chaos And Disorder and Let's Go Crazy live in the UK!) and of course 1984 (the whole Purple Rain era).

Add some James Brown and Little Richard into the mix and you have the perfect recipe for Prince's music and style. He's a perfect fusion of those four, it's uncanny. There were some hints of Miles Davis around 87-88 as well.

the guitar solo in "My Love Is Forever" is VERY Santana-esque...

Why would he "lie" about something so stupid? Prince knew who his influences were. Why wouldn't we take him at his word?

Just another dumb thread.

Sweetie, I'm going to give you a pass because you said English is not your first language. Assuming you were not LUYING about that, you need to look up the word "lie" and learn what it means.

You might also look up the meaning of "never" while you're at it.

I have always thought Prince sounded more like Sanatana than anyone else. Although, the America video has Hendrix written all over it.
