That Grammy 1988 best album clip is not fun to watch.

They present the albums with a font while waiting for the reaction from the Crowd and then zoom in on the artist. MJ, and U2 got huge cheers. Then they introduce Sign ’O’ The Times ”Artist & producer Prince!” and the building almost goes dead silent. And then they zoom in on Prince already moved on in his Lovesexy clothing with a little smile, looking fabulous as always. Boy, was he not liked by the establishment in this period. And BOY did SOTT not get the credit on a huge night like this.

Troll school dropout?

There Was NOT silence when his nomination was announced BUT it's fun to watch someone kick the back of his seat @20:00.

Who can forget his one-man standing ovation for Suzanne Vega that year?

I had to look that up (because if I noticed it at the time I had definitely forgotten it). Boy, he just popped right up to his feet there, didn't he?

Lost his cool, for sure. But that song had to resonate with his own childhood. Vega was like a permission slip for him to record Papa and others.

Is that Andre Cymone next to Jodi? I guess they were married during this time.
I missed his standing O to Suzanne. I always thought that was
Just one of princes camera shy nervous moves and didn’t realize his chair was kicked. Fun look back!

I like when threads that are much ado about nothing go off on tangents that teach me new things about Prince. If I ever saw that Susan Vega letter, I've forgotten it. What a sweet gesture.

The back seat push or kick is more like 21:04-21:05, And P played it off. He could have turned around and gave him one of those P looks that would make one feel ashame or embarrassed!!! lol haha eek mad razz lol Must have been an arsewhole behind him!!!

Prince(r.i.p.) was VERY bothered that he didn't win. I mean he attended the show which says a lot. He later said sitting watching them announce U2 and thinking he can play that kind of music also.

"That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when eye was doing the Purple Rain tour eye had a lot of people who eye knew eye'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream."prince

At the very very end when they show the audience. He pops up like a jack in the box. It's on a different page.

Unlike the travesty that was 1984 with Lionel winning, I cant be too mad at U2 taking this one. That album is still a classic and was huge in 87 as well. One of the more deserving Grammy Album of the Year awards. Of its time, had big impact then and also an all time classic.

This was ruse to get me to watch Michael Jackson, wasn't it? neutral

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

For some reason, I never realized that Brian Eno produced that album.

Don't blame me. I said to start at 20:00. 😂😂😂 MJ makes me ill.
It's obvious that they have MJ fans prime for seats.

MJ sang Man in the Mirror during this award show. I often wondered what Prince thought of that performance while he watched from the audience. After MJ was done singing, the camera caught a little bit of Prince. Come to think of it; what live shows has Prince attended when it comes to MJ or Jackson 5?

If I'm not mistaking, MJ actually sang live. I could be wrong. I am well aware of how P felt about lip syncing. Even though he did it himself two or three times.

He lip synched most of the performance then they turned on his mic for the ad libs at the end of Man In in the Mirror. Obviously that's a joke to P. I've only seen him do it a couple times and in one it was clear he was forced to, The other was on one of those band stand shows in the 70s where no artist sang live.

I didn't know P personally but I'm pretty sure he held himself to the James Brown standard. JB didn't lip synch no matter how much he performed, neither would he.
