It's been reporting that label fighting might stop any re-release this year. Yet new material (last 5 years of P's life) will be released via tidal first then on disc this year.

And yet reporting on this has been completely absent since that first announcement. Nothing was ever said about its contents.

According to media releases and articles availble on the web. Tidal is suppossed to release new music (music from the last 5 years of his life-not all his music -just enough to fill a CD's worth.).

People here thinking they needed like two years and a half to listen and release Piano and Mic are completely out of their mind. . It s just they need hardcore fans like some people here to do the job. . You would thought they do one reissue every two years because they market and hype them...but not even that ! . They should have released one big album every 3 months, like it was originally the plan at Universal before they discovered they were screwed up by some lawyers. . Since Purple Rain deluxe was released on June 2017, they could have gone with 1999 in September and SOTT in December. In between, they could have thrown up albums that only fans could care : - ATWIAD in July - Controversy in August - the huge 1999 deluxe 35 th anniversary in September - graffiti bridge in October - Lovesymbol in November - the huge SOTT 30 th anniversary in December - Lovesexy in January 2018 - Batman in February - The huge PARADE deluxe in march - For you 40 th anniversary in April - Dirty Mind in May - A huge Prince deluxe edition in June 2018 ( the album is a good catalogue seller) - Diamonds and Pearls in July Etc.

iirc that whole deal fell through because warners made it known that they still owned the rights
to all 'their' stuff.

meanwhile, warners hasn't done fuck all with 'their' stuff and there's no word yet on wether they
are planning to do anything with it at all before the rights revert back to the estate/un2 sony.

Maybe thats their stance since the whole fiasco between them and Prince even with AOA etc. Not to give his legacy any shine ?

yep...all they really have to do is sell rights to a couple Prince songs per year , for use in TV commercials and sporting events, and they make MILLIONS..

Not really. They might make a couple of millions occasionally, but that's far from being enough to pay all the bills (lawyers, taxes, wages and costs of running PP, costs of warehousing at Iron Mountain and the costs of working at the archive). The Estate needs to make a lot more than a couple of million a year.

Why are most people so anxious to have all the 'old' stuff in 'remastered versions' ?

While there are TONS of unreleased songs we could get in '(official) better quality versions'?

Most of us know them in crappy bootleg versions... most other people never even heard of them.

i think most people (me, anyway) just figure that good (new) outtakes will be included
on expanded reissues of the original albums. and since most of those albums could do
with a bit of a sound update, it would be a win-win, to get at least all the WB albums
rereleased in great quality, with an extra disc of outtake material.

but yeah, i'd take a six disc outtakes set, too, no questions asked smile

nod yeah I agree.I also like the idea of having the outtakes from a specific album packaged together in a deluxe set.You get the remastered album plus a few discs of outtakes.....it's just perfect.

Lol it could only be 1999, since it s his best selling album after PR.Everybody knew it.

I announced almost two years ago that since the flop of PR deluxe and the lack of cooperation from the estate, they won't release any new deluxe album.

WB will always prefer to release anything but a deluxe edition if they have the choice.
And for the second year in a row, they chose to release something else.
And it will last until they decide to put it on streaming.

What will they release then this year?
Something from the PR era for sure.

It could well be the 1st avenue live of 1983 in CD/dvd. It was supposed to be included in the PR deluxe edition. Maybe the remastering had been finalized.

-

From what i can understand of your writings,

Did i say that ? (read it again.)

I said, MOST people want remasters... I for one care less.

I prefer new unreleased music, since there are more songs unreleased, than released.

Time goes fast. Prince WILL be forgotten at some point in time.

We will get old, there will be no more new fans like it use to be, so less profit.

Less money will be earned by companies and the estate if they wait longer to release (new) stuff.

Again, it's my humble opinion.

-

I have many remasters of other artists at home.

Does it make it better with just improved quality ? Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Remastering is an overrated term used many times just to gain extra $$.

Of course there are good remasters too. Don't get me wrong.

-

I rebought Prince's 80's vinyl albums, recently rereleased, so called remastered, or at least improved sound...

Honestly, there isn't all that much difference imho. And I have very good equipment and ears. smile

I guess it's like tasting wine. Some people got the finesse, others don't. wink

And I never understood the nerdness of having all twice in worse and so called improved quality.

How far can we go ? There are releases by other artists that had a second or even third remastering... Do our ears get better by time ? wink

Again, I could be wrong about it all.

I thought Batman and Diamonds and Pearls sold more?

At the time Diamonds & Pearls was the second largest selling Prince album, with over 6 million copies sold. But recent world wide charts showed that 1999 actually surpassed D&P as a better catalouge seller since 1999 remained always in print. It is passed 7 million world wide to this day.

As a matter of fact The Very Best of Prince is climbing up the ranks and could even be his 3rd biggest selling Prince album soon because of how consitent it has been selling after his death.

So the very best of Prince' sells consistently well.

hm. Well... ok then. So be it.

Personally I never liked any of his 'hits' packages.

I have all of 'm, but never ever or rarely listen to them (possibly because i'm a full-album-man...).

-

For some reason, Prince is the most hard to 'collect' artist in a best of package out there.

His variety of styles and different approaches of music per album makes it not easy to assemble.

Those released compilations have no soul, no consistency, and simply don't work well.

-

(Or maybe it does for those who are not Prince fans like me/us Just people who like to sing to some 'known' popular Prince songs in their car...

I tried to make compilations myself... not easy.

I feel both The MEGA Hits 3 cd package that was divided between hits, new material, & b-sides was well put together including the liner notes. Also The Ultimate 2 cd package with the exception of the omitted 'Erotic City' & NO "Mountains"(extended) was well done also. The rest I can do without.
