10 years later: Thoroughly revised and updated Ultimate Come, Gold, etc. articles!

Has it really been 10 years already?! How time flies. neutral

But I spent them continually updating and revising my Ultimate Come, gold, Emancipation etc. articles as new information became available and here is the result: https://princevswarners.blogspot.com/ biggrin

I decided to publish the articles on a blog instead of the org like last time, because then it can be updated and commented on forever as opposed to just three months. wink

So, have fun spending your long winter nights reading them and feel free to leave a comment. I hope you all like 'em and learn something new. razz

I hope you're still planning to update and publish your chronological list of studio sessions. Just imagine: with Princevault for the detailed information about each track, + my site for the chronological overview of official releases, + your site for the chronological overview of recording sessions, the community would have everything they need : biggrin

my site for the chronological overview of official releases,

You should put a link to it on your prince.org public profile page under "Your homepage." Just a suggestion. wink

Meanwhile, I spent a little time perfecting my blog during the past week. I sure hope those Orgers I quoted in the Introduction don't mind. biggrin

I also added a few illustrations to the Gold and Exodus chapters. biggrin

I will of course update the blog continually if and when new information about this Era should become available. razz

Thanks scififilmnerd! These articles were a treat all those years ago and are even better and more interesting now. It was a really, really great read!

Of course, all the facts you are citing are nothing to argue about. When it comes to opinions however, we most often are miles apart. I rank the released versions of Come and Gold Experience as masterpieces and even if I cherish the early configurations as interesting listens, I prefer the released ones by far.

The released version of the song Come for me is up there with all the suites like Dopamine Rush, Scandalous Sex Suite and Crystal Ball and by far better then the early versions. And whereas I view tracks like Acknowledge me and Ripopgodazippa as not-so-bad little ditties, I dont really care about them. And I rank She gave her angels and Strays of the world as some of the worst things I have ever heard of my cherished Prince (along with the Song Gold, btw, which I cant stand, too). But hey, these are just my opinions and I am glad you enjoy these songs, too! I by the way dont mind the added cowbell on Endorphinmachine a bit lol

If i read back about these exciting years, for me one thing gets clear more then anything else: The fans won! We got so many treats, officially or not, so much great music, so much to think and wonder about. Boundaries were pushed like never before. Which other artist would have gotten away with officially retiring from recording music, changing his name and getting a film with 60 minutes of all-new-music (and for 1994 rather strange sounding music) shown on so many major TV stations all over Europe (and probably the US too, I don't know about that)? It was so much fun being a Prince fan! Glad to have been part of that!

This is amazing. I've re-read the original posts several times over the years. To see this expanded out to a Gold Experience Era Studio Sessions style book would be a dream come true. If not, I'm still immensely grateful for what you've put together here.

Thank you for the compliments despite our differences of opinion on which is the better configuration/song/version. I must say though, that although I have nothing against the song Gold, I don't exactly love it either because the lyrics don't particularly appeal to me. smile

And yes, it was indeed an exciting time to be a Prince fan and we did get a lot of new music, so of course one can see it as "The Fans Won" - especially if one liked the end product of Come and Gold. biggrin

I had a picture of the German Come promo single on my blog but forgot to mention it in the text. That has now been corrected. biggrin

I also added a quote of Michael Bland telling about the genesis of the idea for Emancipation to become a triple album. I placed it right before the Emancipation poem in the Emancipation chapter. Thanks, kindofblue. biggrin

Thank you, massing. smile

I'd love to see a Duane Tudahl-style book for this era too writing about tracks in chronological order where I split 'em up in thematic chapters on my blog. biggrin

But for a book to be attractive to readers it would have to include a lot of new interviews with the people involved with prince during this era. smile

Updated my blog with a couple of additional quotes today: Michael Bland relating a phone conversation between prince and the head of Warner Brothers (in the Gold chapter just before "The recording of Shhh...") and a quote from prince that might explain why the May 1993 configuration of Come escaped bootlegging (in the Come chapter just before "The name-change"), plus a brief mention of prince boasting about Emancipation sales to the Philadelpia Enquirer. biggrin

This is truly outstanding. I’d also love a Studio Sessions style book from this (my favourite) era.
.
I read it first time around but forgot quite a few bits. Like him starting a film project starring Nona Gaye and Vanessa Marcil and the performances of Papa and Loose from it ended up in The Beautiful Experience movie
.
Thanks again for sharing your work scifi

No, I didn't know about that book. It sounds like someone trying to make a quick buck on the Prince-name. I mean, an entire book about just one interview?! eek I doubt that it offers any previously unknown insights...? hmmm

But I DID just add another quotation from prince's lawyer to my Emancipation chapter about prince wiping "slave" from his face. I put it right before "Inspired by death." biggrin

Thanks a lot 4 your efforts. It's a great read and nice update on your previous research. It's a joy 2 read about this fantastic period in the Prince discography. Let's hope that a lot of those songs that we never got 2 hear, will b released by the estate some time soon!!

Your chronological overview of all the Prince recordings are a 'Prince Bible' 2 me and I asume all of us. I would truly love an updated version off your chronological overview!! That would really make my day. Thanks 4 all you do!!

Thank you, Dodger and Berge. biggrin I'll seriously consider doing an additional blog for the chronological recordings list. smile In the meantime, I added a qu0te from prince that I just stumbled across about his first meeting with Chaka Khan to the end of the Chaka Khan chapter on my current blog. biggrin

I also added the line "prince promoted the release by telling Harper’s Bazaar that it was “perfect music to make love to.”" to the Kamasutra chapter. smile
