Article got written about Prince "grooming" Anna. Caused a stir in the fanbase as it was false and vicious.

I texted Anna to let her know about it.

Anna told the writer and editor that it was not true.

Editor pulled article.

The author was getting huge blowback from Prince fans, it wasn't pretty. Anna called (the Author) them out on it.

The lesson here is; don't compare Prince to RKelly. smile

Anna and Mayte were characterized as being "groomed" by Prince. It was a sorry attempt to create some news when both of these stories were well known. It bordered on libel. So glad Anna reached out to correct the record.

.

Is there another word for the two years Prince spent on either girl before they turned 18? Not saying Prince is anything like RKelly, but he had his own problems and weird behaviours (while being a relatively 'normal' and together US star).

.

I am for calling out Prince's many amazing accomplishments, but he did do some odd stuff, including the way Anna and Mayte were prepared for a relationship that started the moment they turned 18. To me, "grooming" seems the most accurate word for it. Too bad the article has been pulled, as I don't know how it was framed. There's in my mind a legitimate reason to discuss it, but it could have just been a sleazy character assassination piece. Sounds like it was more the latter, since the editor pulled it.

"Grooming" has a specific meaning in the context of sexual abuse of MINORS. It means you befriend them give them gifts hang out with the intent of later having sex with them while they are STILL MINORS. What Prince may have done could be said to be the exact opposite of grooming.

I did not know that it had a specific legal meaning in this context. Thanks for clarifying.

In my opinion, the legal definition is not too important though for it to be questionable or not. I mean, there are (even in the US) widely differing ages of consent that go well below 18, and for some countries/definitions, a person is a minor until 21. I use the general "half your age+7" rule for the minimum age that the behaviour towards somewhat under that age is creepy. In both Anna's and Mayte's case, Prince was well over the age that any kind of love/physical relationship with 16 year olds (or even 18 year olds) that made it go into the "creep" zone, legal or not.

I know neither woman have an issue with Prince courting them while they were underage, but it was odd that once Anna left, he found another teen, who happend to have the same last name, and started courting her. I think putting Prince in the same category as R. Kelly is both ridiculous and offensive, but there was a bit of a creep factor in his behavior.

The man got an earful about it while he was still alive, the fully grown women involved feel okay about it now, what's left to be all up in arms about? So many people are chomping at the bit to run other peoples lives and it's ridiculous.

great, i thought i was the only one to see that. Personally, i'm skeptical of journalists, always have been and I would bet everything I own that she was never "a fan" and was just looking for an angle for some come up and used the current me too climate to get the article out there. I ignored it myself, didn't think many people even saw it. False or not, I don't really care. So, I didn't get too upset about it.

I was wondering if that article was ever going to come up here. In all honesty... I think the writer made some decent points, even if she went overboard by comparing Prince to someone as heinous as R Kelly. People can throw around arguments about age of consent laws all they want, but there's something worrying about a man in his early/mid 30's going after teenage girls as soon as they hit 18. Especially when he had been planning his moves while they were still minors. Why couldn't he hook up with women his own age or older? You can't tell me there weren't plenty of grown women throwing themselves at Prince, who were all willing to let him take charge (we all know he was a control freak). And I'm sure they were gorgeous and fit Prince's type perfectly... so why was he lusting after teen girls? It's really weird and I'm glad there are fans willing to question it instead of sweeping it under the rug.

i'd suppose you're a woman. women seem to be the first to say things like that, older women, women past their own primes who aren't much fun to be around in the first place. I read the article but saw her agenda when she used words like "grooming" in it, i doubt she was any kind of fan to begin with and just an oppurtunistic journalist. I won't get into the rights or wrongs from a moral perspective but young women of the age that Prince was meeting these girls have always been the age that men preferred to seek in women, even when they got older. Ever wonder why? Ever think maybe nature has something to do with it? No one wants to hurt their social standing but in most cases, whenever a man can do it, he gets jailbait or not far from it, the examples are endless. And in different times and even now in different parts of the world people wouldn't be using those phoney ass phrases like 'grooming". Women in this country are molly coddled, overprotected and have a million terms to play victim. It's why some of us men really don't want to deal with any of you any more. "me too" "harassment", "grooming" "victim/slut shaming" just shuttup already and go home to that pussywhipped man you beat into submission and leave the rest of us alone.

YIKES Pete! I'm surprised to hear these misogynistic words coming from your mouth.

If you listen to the podcast associated with this article, these women are young, and not "women past their own primes who aren't much fun to be around in the first place." eek eek

I remember when i worked at a store, there was a beautiful prostitute or someone who carried herself that way, one day she said to me "aren't you cold" I said "yea" she said "i'll keep you warm" I said "ok" right behind this gorgeous woman of the night was an old bat looking at me like i was satan incarnate, she called the store later to complain. Old hags like that just don't want to see no one have any fun.

people are so stupid that any catchphrase or word in the current pop lexicon can be used, he could have been said to "bully" people too being that is a hot topic for all the whiney people around today. they should stay in their safe spaces and avoid all trigger words and topics and sit around and cry together, they'd be happy then.

Perfectly able to find older women attractive over here.

I always found it a bit sad that a man in his 50's was consistently hanging around with women in their very early 20's, they stayed the same age as he got older. There was a weird power dynamic there of mutual worship that never sat comfortably with me but I've been happy to hear all the stories coming out of how it was mutual, not abusive.

I agree but it's not just him. Jerry Seinfeld David Letterman on and on it goes. It's an ego thing total ego. Quincy Jones was bragging about having dozens of women and saying women his age are too old, all ego. Anyway, his life his business. Why should I feel one way or the other
