Just a few of the ones I think are worst. Post yours.

Simple Minds - SOTT

The Muse-version of SOTT however is great.

I think the absolute rock-bottom worst is LeAnn Rimes' version of Purple Rain. Unlistenable.

I would still take that over Mariah's pregnant pigeon cooing on "The Beautiful Ones" any damn day. It's the lesser of two evils.

The Party O' The Times compilation is pure garbage. When you have John Stamos's wife (or ex or whatever the fuck she's doing in life) barking her way through "Darling Nikki", I am done. (And that's only two tracks in.)

I don't mind Jordan Knight's version of "ICNTTPOYM". The ballad takes makes it more emotive about a lost girl in trouble. Again, we've heard worse.

And while I loves me some Tina Turner, her take on "Let's Pretend We're Married" just doesn't do much. It feels like a reason to cover a popular artist way back then. "Baby I'm A Star" was better, but they're both tough songs to do justice with.

There are some just bland covers out there, not great and not horrible. Classical Metropolitan Orchestra did one (although Prince sampled their version of "1999" on his own "1999: The New Master"). Bob Belden's When Doves Cry cover project was okay for a while, but it's worn old now.

For a band as bland and basic as Maroon 5 their cover of Kiss is pretty good tbh.

Tom Jones
Mariah Carey
Madonna
I think I saw Res cover Purple Rain once at a show and had to step outside, same with Tori Amos.

lot of bad ones, mariah carey has no excuse, it sounded like the production was done on a casio, no excuse for someone with her resources, i never like nina simones sott, most of the purple rain covers done by the female divas are a wreck because they oversing it. Prince covers are hard to do because people don't know when to lay off and be cool, he was a master at that.

No one said Metallica's When Doves Cry/Let's Go Crazy. That's my favorite hot mess.

I disagree, there are a few I really do like--Quindon Tarver's "When Doves Cry" immediately comes to mind--but that's a topic for another thread.

The relatively obscure Texas-based singer songwriter David Garza had a pretty awesome cover of GIRLS & BOYS back in the 90s on a compilation.

I thought Jordan Knight's cover was decent back then and I still think it's ok,overly dramatic presentation aside. I didn't care for Maroon 5's and CeeLo's but I rarely like covers of Prince songs though I have heard some instrumentals that I thought were nice.

stop bashing on Metallica cause they just had a little fun in a live show. It's not like the released a serious cover or anything like that.
Will we start including all wedding-party acts as well?

I bashed them while having a little fun in a live show, it's not like I bashed their work on a serious cover like you did in the first post of this thread, so F off.

Well, while I enjoy Metallica at times, I will not be watching that video. LOL I cannot imagine they'd do any sort of justice to a Prince song, even if they were toying around with it.

Bad or not, I look at it as a compliment to the man himself, because obviously they think he's great enough to try and cover his songs.

I still don't know if this is crap or pure brilliance.

I'm not proud, eh. But this Hawaian shit with butterflies,
Prince would have cracked a laugh, I know I do.

It's a little 1920's Camillesque and very well arranged.
Quite the ear, the arranger.

Wait for it.

I had to turn it off at "Standing by the fire" as well.
