So this isn't a documentary at all, it's a compilation of video clips stretched over six episodes.

I very much doubt Prince footage exists of him discussing each and every project ever conceived.

Looks a mess already and the time is ticking.

He recorded everything. I bet there is a ton of audio of him talking during recording sessions that can fill 20 episodes if they wanted to. I would much rather hear his words than the usual "he got the idea for _____ from me" stuff that many of his associates are now freely saying in his absense. There is so much in the vault where Prince's story can be told by him and his music.

If that is the case then that will be great... but I doubt it.

So what you are saying is that Prince each day would set up a camera and record himself discussing the ins-and-outs of recording all of his tracks and performing all of his shows and making all of his videos and planning all of the artwork for every album and single release.

If this exists then it will be the holy grail.

I really do not believe Prince was that much of a narcissist - after all his was busy creating music.

If these documentaries are to be made up of Prince commentries then that will be great, but I'm not one to inflate something until it is proven to exist.

The 1980's could easily cover more than one episode. There are 9 albums (if you count his first two in '78 and '79), plus all of the protege groups, the PR film, SOTT film, and all of his tours. It seems this decade could easily take up several episodes depending on how detailed they get.

I agree. But, I would say the same of the 2000's and the 10's. I'm most interested in 1972-1982 and 2006-2016. 72-82 is what shaped him. 06-16 is the man that he ulitmately evolved into. I feel like 83-90 has always been the focus and I would actually be disappointed if she spent an inordinate amount of time on that period. I'm not saying don't give that period equal time, but it should not be beyond equal time. Prince in 2014 is a much more interesting person than Prince in 1984 and many people don't know just how great he had become as a leader, humanitarian, musician, mentor, etc.

I don't think there will be a ton of footage from '72-80 unless the family contributes new childhood photos, home movies, etc. I think any new footage from the 80's that has never been seen would be very important to include. I don't know that Prince in 2014 was more interesting - he was just more mature in certain ways, more spiritual, and much more mellow.

There's footage of him in the late 60s at camp according to Alex hahn

Really!!! Okay, well that would be fantastic to see. No doubt, any additional photos/footage from his childhood would be fantastic to see. My thought was that back then they didn't do much with video, it was mainly photos. It would also be great to see any video footage of his Dad playing as a jazz pianist with his Mom singing, but that is probably a long-shot since it was the early to mid 50's.

I am sure there is plenty of audio from the early years talking about his influences and creative process, but probably not much video.

They could do the 6 episodes by time period. 1. His childhood. 2. Early career. 3. The 1980's. 4. Slave era/90's. 5. Independent 2000's. 6. His last years/days.

Better yet, they could do it by topic: 1. Spirit; 2. Musician; 3. Live Performer; 4. Comedian; 5. Visionary; 6. Humanitarian

Jesus Christ no thank you. I'd be watching episodes 2 and 3 and the rest would be just the worst of prince.org.

Prince in his own words is a really good idea, like how the Duane Tudahl includes as many quotes from him as possible. We've had a ton of documentaries of varying quality with talking heads talking about Prince, to narrow it down to only what he said is a brave choice. Especially since he talked some serious wacky shit over the years.

My interest would be to see more actual audio/video footage of the rehearsals with Prince talking to/directing the band. We know there is at least some based on some of the audio that's out there, the black and white warehouse rehearsal before the 6/84 birthday show, and the color footage from the recent NC2U release. I loved the 1983/84 audio rehearsal of The Revolution where the band was just goofing around while Wendy's guitar was being fixed. It was absolutely hilarious. Those types of "fly on the wall" moments would be great to see.

I'm so excited! Should have added one more to make it 7V3N. I'm glad Prince is coming back to do it himself.

I knew Ava (Off topic comment deleted - l'ange bleu - moderator) was the best choice.

I agree. But, I would say the same of the 2000's and the 10's. I'm most interested in 1972-1982 and 2006-2016. 72-82 is what shaped him. 06-16 is the man that he ulitmately evolved into. I'm interested in who he was in his 40's and 50's as well for the same reasons you mentioned and I'm fascinated with the period of 83-88 since that was when he imo wrote and recorded his most interesting music. I would hope that they would devote a bit of time to the last decade since it was one of his most successful and represents his growth. Ava will of course do what she feels and all we can hope is that the finished project does justice to him and puts him in a good light.

Agreed. All of the decades are interesting and fascinating for the music and various reasons. It's just SO much information - 50 years of constant music and changes for him. It is a daunting task that must be nerve-racking to take on. Very intimidating for sure.

Well, certainly love is very important, so hopefully she is mixing that with a strong knowledge of what has already been publicly documented vs never before seen material. Although, since only a handful of people know the vault material that hasn't been seen the viewers won't really know how or if they would prefer it to have been done differently.

I think that this could be the most important post death Prince release that the world will ever see. This will captures his legacy beyond 1984. He was so much more than that and this will be what children and scholars reference 300 years from now when they are learning about why our Prince was so great. Nothing else will touch the depth of this release. There will be vault releases, books, biopics, boxsets, documentaries, etc., but this will be a deep dive into who Prince was and will frame his legacy properly. Prayers for Ava and her work. I have a great feeling that this is going to be very special.
