I don’t know why you are taking this so personal and calling me names. Now that’s the very definition of childish.

Aren't you the one who went in the Janet Jackson thread to call people "weirdos"?

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

ANd you weirdos were the ones who came unhinged and went bonkers. You take things way too personally.
Good try though. But chill already lol

Quincy Jones has gone on record - a while ago, (so this is old news for a lot of you) saying MJ asked Prince to be co-singer on what was initially supposed to be a duet with him for the song, Bad.

--

Prince's infamous response in a Chris Rock interview, in his best sarcastic "Camille" type attitude was, "The first lyric in the song is 'Your butt is mine', who's saying that to whom? 'Cause I ain't singing that to you, and sure as hell ain't singing that to me!” *

--

With his response, he (according to Susan Rogers) sent him a redone version of the song MJ sent to him, all funked out P style saying, "Now this is BAD", or something like that. Funny Quincy never said anything about that, though. I would love to know how Michael received that version of his song.

--

My question is this - regardless of the lyric, wouldn't this have been an epic collab? It's too bad they never did anything artistically together - and props to MJ for reaching out, and on and on .... BUT DON'T YOU WANT TO HEAR THIS TRACK?! I think it would be amazing - perhaps that's one of the treasures in the vault.

Maybe one day we'll hear it ... hint, hint, Ms. Sharon L Nelson?? biggrin

--

*(paraphrasing - don't remember the actual quote - but it's pretty accurate)

BTW where did Susan tell that story? I'd never heard it b4.

hmmm No, probably not, Prince said that they called the album Bad because Pathetic wouldn't fit on the sleeve... P found the lyrics cringe-worthy...

And yet, five years later, he released "My name is Prince..."

Those lyrics... *cringe*

My name is Prince and I am funky
My name is Prince the one and only
I did not come to funk around
'Till I get your daughter I won't leave this town
In the beginning God made the sea
But on the seventh day he made me
He was tryin' to rest y'all when He heard the sound
Sound like a guitar cold gettin' down
I tried to bust a high note, but I bust a string
My God was worried 'til he heard me sing
My name is Prince and I am funky
My name is Prince the one and only, hurt me
Hurt me (Do that, do that, somebody)
(Do that, do that, somebody)
My name is Prince and I am funky
When it come to funk I am a junky
I know from righteous I know from sin
I got to sides and they both friends
Don't try to clock 'em, they're much too fast
If you try to stop 'em they kick that ass
Without a pistol, without a gun
When you hear my music you'll be havin' fun
That's when I got ya that's when you mine
To tell the truth, tell me what's my line?
My name is Prince and I am funky (You can't stop Prince)
My name is Prince the one and only, hurt me (You can't stop Prince)
Funky fresh for the 90's (Do that, do that, somebody) (Prince)

I hope you get a hug as well as you come off the bat seemingly angry and unhinged. Chill dude. Not everyone is in your zone as a flaming whatever you are with your finger snaps attitude.

...just as with the Janet Jackson thread, i’ll leave you weirdos to your last word and walk away. You people are not well. lol
I should know better that to walk into Janet or Madonna threads, my bad.

Yes, epic. I thought I read somewhere that Lenny, P and MJ all kick'd it in a studio chatting for a good amount of time? Could it be possible they recorded together then? There has to be something...

I think they're actually right on topic.
This is precisely what "Bad" was: childish from the beginning.
"Who's better, you or me?"

Of course Prince wouldn't participate in such immature display of abilities (or a mass charity-washing).
Besides, Michael could only write melodies "à la Michael". I just can't hear Prince singing that melody and rhythm, no matter what the lyrics could have been.

Michael developed a tendency to adourn everything with hysterical sixteenth notes, there's always something frantic about his delivery ("dah! duh! woooh! hee!"), all this inner repression accumulated through the years became the trademark of his anguished vocal performances.

It started with Bad the album ; he always sounds like he's in some kind of pain, even in feelgood songs like "The Way You Make Me Feel". He doesn't sound turned on at all, he sounds desperate to know what it feels like. It sounds great because the throath is in constant fight for control, but underneath the guy is boiling, and it's not from desire, it's mostly rage ("Another Part Of Me"). The constant hiccuping reveals it. Even soft songs like "Liberian Girl", "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", always this damn hiccup, the non-stop sobbing, deep down the guy's not happy. At all.

In all the albums before Bad, there is a Happy Michael (in fact, it's mostly Happy Michael). The success of "Thriller" broke something, maybe the joy of making music for what it is, not this obsession to sell a fucking hundred millions, which is not making an artistic statement, it's just being the system's bitch. "Be Not Always" is the first crack in the pavement. It's not exclusive to Michael, no one can sustain that much fame and expectations while keeping a sane mind. And the masses went crazy for this crucifixion, the guy who would never lead a normal life again (but did he ever?). The saddest part is that he felt forced to keep on with this shit. Whereas Prince showed them the finger, and how.

Prince was an adult at sixteen, at twenty-eight he certainly had no business singing with a child, even a prodigy one.

Who's bad? Prince is.
Michael is innocent, your honor.
