I think what we have here is a similar situation to the one from the movie Ratatouille.

In that movie, a rat goes undercover in a restaurants kitchen to help the chef prepare 5 star meals.
The rat was the one with all the talent.
The chef was useless.

What I think happened was, Prince was a struggling musician,
with very little talent. But he dreamed of stardom.

The chipmunk never cared for the spotlight, he just wanted to dance,
play music, have sex and romance. So naturally, they teamed up to accomplish that.
Now, I'm not suggesting they ever had sex.
They might have, for all I know.

But that's not the point I'm making.

They did, however, make some great music.
Or at least, the chipmunk did. Prince would sing most of the time,
although sometimes the chipmunk did put his own voice on the record.

He was even credited on the songs as Camille.
And their partnership provided many a great record for nearly 40 years.

Only in 2014 was the chipmunk to totally overtake his puppet, albeit briefly,
jumping out of Prince's hairy chest to devour all the Breakfast pancakes
while squeaking The Truth to an astonished community of fans,
hearing the real (and quite horrendous) voice behind it all, for the very first time.

"Roadkill! Roadkill!" went the Purplesphere©®™,
squirrel meat was what they're hungry 4.
Heads (check, check, rolling) 2.

Prince astutely disguised the whole thing as a hoax,
using Murphy as a syrupy diversion.
Fans were in awe, jaw dropped and zygomatics pumped.
Case was closed.
