Yes, Mr. Melvoin was connected and also well respected. He and Mr. Coleman were major session players for most of the big musicians during the 60's and 70's. They played on Pet Sounds - how cool is that?!!! Plus so many others. Mr. Coleman played the Congas on Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" and with many other Motown greats. Pretty cool to be born into those surroundings, but I think all of the Melvoin/Coleman kids used that exposure wisely and were/are talented in their own right.

Yes, Lisa spoke about her Father's career during her interview with Questlove. She said when she was on the Dirty Mind tour they toured the Motown museum, and there was a picture of her Fatger on the wall. He played on most of the big records back then.

Really enjoyed reading this from Susannah. Just the whole musical process going on that night on Galpin. The part where she talks about bringing him the "Constant Comment" tea got to me. That variety of Celestial Seasonings tea was my sister's favorite, and she is no longer with us. Those teas were so popular in the 70's and 80's with the hippie set. It took me back...pachuli incense, hot tea, Indian fabric wall-hangings,black lights, and real music played by real muscians!!

I think it was just a funny quip at the end of her story, because he did refer to women as "Momma" in his songs on occasion - at least in earlier years. I don't know. If Prince was referring to a woman as "Momma" (as in "make your woman happy) in the song then that may be the case, because they were living together at the time.

I had never considered that he was referring to a lover in the song until reading Susannah's words. I always took it as he was talking about your actual momma lol.

did U even read it? it is mostly about finger cymbals, David Coleman and Prince. We are not even fully aware she is talking about Make Your Momma Happy until the end because she is mostly talking about finger cymbals. And a recording session. The protagonist is the finger cymbal.

Yes, the first part of her story was explaining a bit of hers and the Coleman's family history with music, as well as, David and Jonathan's influence with various intsruments and sounds including Finger Cymbals. She then explained the evolution of the song and her use of the Finger Cymbals. * She was describing how these sounds and additional instruments became important to Prince during that time. It brought to mind the March 1986 1st Avenue Parade show where Prince played the Finger Cymbals when performing the song Paisley Park.
