Prince early photos -some show him so sad & lost - reflective of the real him?

Not sure if this is worthy of a thread but just wanted to share an observation.

Just looking through some very early pics & damn he looks so uncomfortable, shy, awkward & even depressed I guess this is backed up somewhat with how many from the early days have described him [C. Moon, Owen H etc]

As we know he strived to get that 1st album done & perfected but the pics from that era show a young man not at all comfortable with the journey.

I truly wonder if that ever got easier for him...despite all the adulation & endless success was it really ever enough?....the song Reflection perhaps was a clue?

So crazy that you brought this up. I listened to Michael Dean's show recently where he interviewed Mi-Ling Stone Poole and she was saying how awkward but sweet Prince was. Just very different than the Prince persona Purple Rain and beyond when he had women throwing themselves at him. She said Prince was kinda a "hot mess" but in an enduring way.

He was just a kid, fumbling his way through just like everybody else. Fame and success changes EVERYBODY, to a degree. You have to.

Well, the human condition has always been about struggle. Happiness is just another emotion and emotions come and go. I have always wished a sense of inner peace for Prince. I always sensed there was a sweet soul down in there underneath the inner pain.

He seemed to have his ups and downs like anyone. I did think he had a sad look in his eyes in some photos in 2015 and I wondered if he was happy. Those around him such as the Weltons and Shelby J described him as being very peaceful and positive and upbeat. To me,he seemed more content during the P&M shows than he had in a while and to be at times sharing what was on his mind and heart while he was playing. They're interesting to listen to.

She really said "enduring"?
I can imagine "endearing".

No she didn't actually say it but that was more my impression of what was implied. Sorry endearing was the word I meant.

And that is one of the reasons Prince was my hero growing up. It seemed like he had such a thick skin and was so strong. That business is brutal and would eat most Minneapolis kids alive and his longevity and success was just a testament to his inner strength and fortitude. Maybe you hsve to kill off a part of your innocence I guess to reach that level...just to be able to function. I guess making it was what he really wanted most in life and he got it. He was a survivor in my mind. That world would destroy most.

Well, it did destroy him too, if you consider he died alone from a drug overdose in his mid-fifties. sad

Prince did not like taking pictures when he first got into the music business.
