You don't like the original? It's a done-very-well Sympathy for the Devil steal. Prince might have messed it up but it's still a good track underneath his mess.

[Edited 11/21/18 12:22pm]

Im kind of indifferent to Crows version but you said it was the best song on Rave.

And the worst track. Different things.

It s a bummer to realize thé best tracks of a 36 songs triple album are only covers. . I think Prince réalized that, and that s why thé lead singles of Émancipation and Lotus Flower are covers, because his own material hadn t enough commercial appeal. . Each Time triple albums, each Time a cover as a lead single ! Sounds like an artistic failure. . I hâte When artists fill their studio albums With a cover. What s thé point, unless you are in dire need of a good track on your album? I Really Wonder what toi think IS better than One of US and Lalala...on Émancipation ? . And what IS honnestly better than Crimson and Clover in Lotus Flower ? Try to imagine, as I first thought, that It IS Prince own

This is crazy nonsense. The WORST songs on Emancipation are the covers. And, my God, his version of "Everyday Is a Winding Road" is horrid. Your taste makes zero sense. And as to choice of singles, Prince made very poor choices in the 90s. "Sleep Around" had far more commercial appeal than "Betcha By Golly Wow." He just made a bad decision. "Colonized Mind" and "Dreamer" are both better than "Crimson & Clover." Without question. "Crimson & Clover" is a limp, unnecessary cover. It wasn't even included on the digital version of the album.

Not more wild than the OP. I answered on the same tone "your tastes make zero sense bla bla bla"
.
The guy seriously implies that Sleep Around better than of Us makes sense. This is illogical.
.
So how come One of us is still being broadcast on the radio and Sleep Around never made it to the radio?
.
How come Prince covered these songs, but nobody covered Sleep Around?
.
That s the difference between an all time classic and a more than average song.

"Sleep Around" and "Hypnoparadise" is that sexy, funky, NewYork/Chicago/Detroit 'House Music'... maybe its a regional thing, but i love that subgenre...always have...Prince dabbled in it a few times, and did it well...

Of course I talked about the original songs played on radio. As if you didn't t understand...
Like I said twenty times, One of Us,the song, the music, the melody, the lyrics, are 100 times more inspired than what is on Émancipation.

.
Samething for Crimson and Clover, you can t find a more inspired song on Lotus Flower.
.
Prince knew that more than you obviously, or else his covers wouldn't have been put on an album, Inthe first place ; and they wouldn't have been so hiGhlighted during the promotion (singles, TV performance, music video, etc.)

If you did a poll on the org of the ten best songs on Emancipation, I doubt any of the covers would be amongst the most highly rated.

They certainly wouldn't make my top 10 off the album.

1. Dont' expect miracles from science. Once you have a mixdown of audio signals,
it's pretty hard to isolate them, if not impossible depending on the source.

2. The way it is mixed? No. Karaoke-like filters are good at supressing the center of the stereo image
using phase inversion. If the lead vocal is perfectly at the center, it should disappear.
Problem is, anything that has been mixed (placed) in the center will also vanish.
Filters compensate by working on the usual frequencies the voice produces, so the kick drum and the bass,
usually mixed in mono at the center, won't dissapear as well.
Conclusion: we'll have to wait for the multitrack version reedition and a sympathetic A&R guy, I guess.
