At the 4'30" point in the video, Lenny Kravitz states:

"After he died, and nobody knows this 'til now, I was given his guitar - his main - one of his main Hohners"

As Prince didn't leave a will, who would have had the authority to have gifted this to Lenny Kravitz?

If you listen further he clarifies he was given it to use on the album.

Lenny is awesome! So glad he got to use Prince's guitar. I love Lenny's words about Prince in his recent liner notes. I do believe these 2 were true friends, even if they didn't hang out regularly.

Yep - I did listen further. It just isn't clear that he was simply loaned it for use, or rather gifted it and used it on the album.

I don't ever want to see a Prince biopic because there is nobody in this world or lifetime that can play him but if they ever did make one Lenny would be the only person that I can see who would come the closest to portraying him the best...not that I want them to do it but if.

There was another video a while ago of Kravitz showing off some items from his collection, such as James Brown's boots and what he said to be "one of Prince's guitars". Now that blue Cloud guitar was quite clearly just a cheap copy, not one Prince ever played publicly.

Being a professional musician, a fan as well as friend of Prince, I'm sure he is aware of the many differences between a Cloud copy and the real deal – yet he claimed that it's "one of Prince's guitars".

So in light of the above, I'm not fully convinced that he was given a real Hohner MadCat. Maybe he was just given a cheap Hohner TE Prinz, which is a quite different modell from a totally different manufacturer.

The Estate clearly has no clue anyway, as proven by the fact that their My Name Is Prince exhibition features one of these TE Prinz models, claiming that it was Prince's main, favourite guitar, while in fact he has never played that publicly.

Another important question is, as someone already mentioned it above: how was Kravitz given a guitar from Prince's collection? Who gave it to him? Theoretically everything was controlled by the bank and the heirs have to pay tax on everything they inherited, so to me it looks like removing anything from Prince's properties is a criminal offence, especially if it was really such a high value instrument.

If what Kravitz was given is really one of Prince's genuine Hohner-branded MadCats, and not a cheap Korean-made TE Prinz model, then that guitar would easily worth several hundred thousands of dollars at an auction.

If someone really removed it from Paisley and gifted it to Kravitz (as opposed to just lending it to him), that sounds like theft to me.

Friends don't let friends clap on 1 and 3.

PP wasn't locked down (for several days) after his death. Rumor has it several close associates and some family removed things from PP...and I'm not talking about Lenny.

Then why are you posting about it on the Lenny thread? I don't know if Lenny has an "authentic" Prince guitar or if he referred to a replica; the fact that he gives Prince props is good enough.

Guess I should have quoted post #4 in my post, since they were wondering who would've had the authority to give Lenny the guitar.

It's sad that this post about Lenny's beautiful sentiments about Prince and his spirit have been turned into something ugly and contentious here on the Org. SMH.

.

Seriously, it DOES matter. If the story is true, it is proof of someone stealing stuff from Paisley and that is not only morally wrong but illegal too.

.
If someone has taken one of Prince's most valuable instruments, what else was taken? Perhaps some master tapes and hard drives that were piled on the floor outside the vault? This is a HUGE issue that should be investigated IF it really happened, and I'm sorry but I don't care whether it's ended up in Kravitz's hands, if it is really one of the real Hohner MadCats then it should've remained inventoried and kept safe inside Paisley Park Museum for future generations to see, not in the private collection of a rock star.

I thought he said he was given one to use, not to keep. Did I misunderstand what he said?

The quotations are:

"After he died, and nobody knows this 'til now, I was given his guitar - his main - one of his main Hohners"

and then, later:

"... and so then I get given the guitar - to use on the album ..."

The second quotation states that the guitar was given to him to use on the album, but it is not clear whether he has been gifted or loaned the instrument. It could simply be cleared up by asking for clarification on that point.
