I always would get a mental image of Prince actually whenever I would listen to the song " Just Be Good to me" by SOS band. Like that is how the women mentally go though being a part of the purple harem. People like Sheila and others who knew. I can't imagine being in that situation..that would be way to painful...just the insecurity of the situation.

It explains the "on/off" nature of his relationship with Susannah. I believe she put a stop to things and went back to LA at some point before the start of the PR tour - that may have been their first "off" period. Then she was back with him by the end of the tour. Then the big fight/breakup which produced the "Empty Room/Go sessions. Then the engagement. Then her moving out of the house. Then she's back on the Parade tour. Then moving back to LA. Then him chasing her out there for two months. My goodness, talk about a roller coaster ride!!

He wanted his girlfriend sitting and waiting for him to call or come home while he was out and about. During that time, especially the 80's, it was much easier to hide your escapades and whereabouts - no cell phones. I think he used manipulation as well. Wendy stated about the relationship with Susannah, "he would expect her to be faithful, and he would be out womanizing.

Although, it does bring to mind the iconic 1986 birthday show in Detroit when he had both Susannah and Sheila on stage at the same time for Kiss They are on either side of the stage - Susannah on the mic with Wendy, and Sheila on the other side next to Jerome and crew. You can see Sheila looking across the stage. Very interesting dynamic to say the least!

Agree on all points! I should have mentioned that dynamic of multiple lovers performing on stage both with and without (e.g. Vanity 6) him.

I really wanted to end on a happy note, because I'd been so darn grouchy, and more than anything else, I'm grateful for the gifts of the purple artistry. There's so much joy in that! But as your points bring out, the purple world was complex. Layer upon layer of complication, for sure.

Wow, I've actually never even considered that before. I'm sure the endorphin rush onstage and the high afterward was out of this world exciting. I'm sure any lovemaking after a spectacular show must have been intense for such passionate performers.

Yes, a happier note is always best! No doubt there was also much fun to be had with Prince too, and it seems he spared no expense for the women he truly cared about or wanted to impress. There were some definite lows, but some really big highs too, based on their accounts.

Yes, strange dymanics or not....that 1986 birthday show must have been such a magical high for the entire band, Sheila and Susannah. The crowd was huge and showing the love for Prince and the band. Prince was beaming and so happy on stage. One of my favorites to watch

I loved the video. The footage was fantastic - a snapshot of that time, all so young and energetic. The interaction between Prince and Wendy was adorable. I'm glad they released the demo, and I thought Prince and Susannah sounded great together. The color footage was great to watch, and I hope they release more of it. I have the black and white footage of the warehouse rehearsal for the 1984 birthday show, which is great, but the color footage is so much better.

Have you heard the audio of one of the rehearsals with The Revolution where they are all joking around? It's about an hour or so, and it is hilarious. Matt does a Popeye voice and Lisa does a funny bit with the song Stand Back by Stevie Nicks. It's a great moment in time and shows the young band having fun. We get to be a "fly on the wall" during their rehearsal. Love it!!
