With the amazing success of the musical bio-pic BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY....

Do you think that there is sudden, serious interest in a Prince-related musical bio-pic?

Granted Queen was arguably a bigger, more global musical act in their hetyday than Prince...but still, Prince is stll huge in the US, Europe, Australia, Japan, etc.

His life was interesting, mysterious, and full of dazzling highs and crushing lows and had it's fair share of tragedy...like Freddie Mercury's...

I could see some very well-connected movioe studio types reaching out to The Estate right now.

In it's first weekend BOHEMIAN RHAPDOSY, which cost around 55M to make, has alreayd made $145M worldwide. A huge success.

Imagine if a director had free-reign with THE MUSIC...

OMG....

It could be amazing.

Audiences are wanting these types of films right now.

I sure hope not.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

It will happen but god please don’t lie or put out fake facts like Bohemian Rhapsody. His life needs no embellishments or creative doctoring of events.

Rhapsody is a fun mess of a movie but its a not true to real life events. Please god never allow them to make a made-up Prince film such as Bohemian Rhapsody.

Well if reviews are anything to go by this movie isn’t making all that money because it’s a good movie.

Not sure what was "made up"...there's some streamlining of events, and some composite characters, but that's what it means to be a movie adpation. Otherwise, BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY the movie would have a 35-year running time. Nothing was "made-up" in the real sense. Freddie lived a very extreme life. In fact, that would have been the Sasha Baron Cohen version. If anything, this movie was watered-down.

There is a video on YouTube that I posted on “the rate the movie you saw” thread that details the things that are not true or not quite true.

The band produced the film and wanted to be portrayed in the best possible light.

When watching it, the things that seemed the most odd were things that were made up.

Yes, I also heard it was watered down and that is why Sasha Baron Cohen decided to leave.

Brian May et al were trying to tidy-up the Freddy Mercury/ Queen legacy. Sounds familiar.

Not just watered down but outright lies about events that didn’t happen as depicted.

They already did it was called Purple Rain. Big hit, maybe look it up on prince vault or Wikipedia. But the new one could be like, 4-5 hours long with like, 1 hour of dialogue and about a half hour for interludes, cameos from people like the surviving Jacksons telling their Prince stories. Animated and real dialogue interspersed with rare concert footage. Or just animated versions of crazy Prince stories with like 4, 5 hours of superb concert footage that could later be released on iTunes all at once like a phish box set. They could roll them out one at a time and do like 4,5 mini movies that are historically somewhat accurate and entertaining then subsequent concerts as videos and albums on iTunes. I could also dig some kinda indie flick about him Somehow like a fan or a dream or something with stories with non-Warner songs. This one would require scantily clad women, fish nets, big hair swept back to one side, you know, usual stuff maybe rolling across cars in a parking lot and/or doing erotic, tasteful dance scenes.
.
Or several of his songs becoming titles or themes to movies that don't make a major commercial impact but are either fun or hilariously awful. One called Valentina about Russel Crowe as a middle school teacher with a crush on his students single mom.
.
Also someone has already asked this question as another poster noted.

Hey if outright lies is what goes at the box office, somebody call Bruno Mars and let's go crazy! I would like a half hour of nonsense about him and Madonna or like a scary secret addiction movie.

A Bio-pic of Prince would be lame and embasarassing because nobody can do 'Prince' like Prince did.

If they want to do anything like that they should just do a huge documentary or a series (Ava duvernay hopefully will do an in-depth one) with a lot of vault and archive footage, that would be the most accurate and respectful.

Anybody trying to act like Prince will come of as a karikature idiot and will be laughed at and plain embarassing to look at.

I'm not saying the movie is factual but how do you know the Youtube video is the full truth? I don't know the truth either way, so am happy to watch an entertaining move regardless. One of my favourite 'documentaries' is the King of Kong, which is about Donkey Kong. I love video games and grew up playing them in the arcades. That film doesn't portray a truthful version of events but it does give us an entertaining movie. And honestly, I wouldn't be upset with a Prince movie in the same mould.

RIP sad

Dear God no. No. No. No.
A generic, disneyfied biopic that might as well cast Anna and Elsa as Wendy and Lisa. Sounds like an absolute nightmare.

Nah. He was already larger than life and we have Purple Rain, the ultimate imaginative fictional semi-biopic. Documentaries are the way to go.

Having said that, I like the idea of prince-adjacent stuff like that Cherry Moon Premiere film.

The only other way I could see it working would be films focusing on very small parts of his life, like Nowhere Boy.

Well, in the movie, the band essentially break up, and Freddie comes back and apologies to them all, leaving them a little over two weeks to prepare for Live Aid (making it Mid/Late June 85); with one of the band explaining that they are rusty as they haven't played together for two years.

The reality was Queen only finished 'The Works' world tour Mid May 1985.

Don't see what they gained from inventing a two year gap.

Don't see the point in those bullshit stars biopics at all anyway.

If nothing else, they show that the most fascinating real lives are boring to death by comparison to fiction.

Those Hollywood hacks would be better off creating fiction stories about imaginary rock stars: it would make better movies.

But as long as people will pay for that shit, we'll get more of it shrug

The entire opening of the movie is fiction.

The ending is fiction, as you say, the had been on tour for a while but the movie makes it seem they hadn’t seen each other and hadn’t played together for many years. It also has Fredy telling them he has Aids before the show where he didn’t tell them for another two years.

A lot more things but those are the ones that made me cringe while watching it.

Like I said, the movie is a FUN mess. But it is not a great movie or anywhere close being authentic.
