Life Of the Party & ICPC...am I alone in utterly despising these tracks?!

These 2 ruin the Musicology album for me, bloody awful vocal from Candy D, thin sounding funk, inane lyrics just YUK!

Life of the Party life scrubs up0 better with the JB horns motif though!

Not his best... you are right about these ones. But overall the album is pretty good. Some people hate too much.

Agree on Life Of The Party. They tried to do the same on 3121 with Get On The Boat which is few degrees better than Life thank god.

I also dislike Musicology.

Yes, Life 'O' The Party is a universal turkey.

.

I don't mind ICPC though. I mean it's no Eggplant. At least there's a bit of humour there. 'Boy I was fine back in the day'

That nasal "She knew what firk to use..." opening cracks me the hell up. And a few other smart assed lines make it cool too imho. I use that "I was fine back in the day" line a lot regarding posts lol.

I like both songs. Life o the party was much better live, he def didn't capture the potential of the song on the album, but I'm still a fan of the song in general. But ICPC -LOVE this song, my wife even digs this one!

I wasn't ever a huge fan of Get on the Boat, but my daughter loves that song A LOT, so I have fun singinig it with her, and I've kind of grown to like the song quite a bit more.

This is crazy talk! eek These tracks are so funky, both of 'em. I love Musicology album, a solid listen from press play on to the end... memories of good times music the beat on ICPC is fire. I also like how both tracks are basically stories. I want outtakes and rare stuff from this era so badddd

This is the issue. Folks define these songs as what 'funky'mean. Not a diss to you but...let me say tbat Do You Lie is funkier than the paint by numbers "funky" songs such as these (mainly LOTP and GOTB)..Im not sure if Im explaining it right..this is complicated.

I don't think they define funky, but I do feel they fall under the definition of funky cool especially the dueling guitars at the end of ICPC and the horns on Life, lovely stuff.

.

GOTB is another thing as it kinda has that "the word" vibe to it, GOTB is like an upbeat church song haha

.

I would be bobbin and shakin to instrumental versions of all three tracks if such a thing existed.

Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance is a very nice funk track to my ears and brings something needed to to the album.

Life 'O' The Party is not an essential song for me, but I don't dislike it either. However, it was very good live on the tour.

Yes i so agree I was just thinking how much I love Emanipation and what an awesome album it is..i love the 90s R&B grooves and style but I find myself skipping around so much on that one...he probably was very emotionally attached to many of the songs so I can see why he would want to include his babies but as a listener some of it is just filler to me.

The guitar work in ICPC is phenomenal. And not just just the last 30 seconds. Put on some headphones, crank it up, and enjoy the genius.

The only reason I like "Life O' the Party" is because my daughter got to sing it with Prince a couple times, So I always see her when I hear that song. But absent that, it's just a throw-away song.

This is the greatest thread ever regarding "ICPC". And, if you want to learn the funky part, theAudience breaks it down in reply #8:

Jam of the Year
Right Back Here in my arms
Somebody's Somebody
Get your groove on
In this Bed I scream
One Kiss at a time
Soul Sanctuary
Dreamin' about u
Let's have a baby
Emancipation

These to me are his strongest songs. I like a few others like White Mansion and Mr. Happy too.

I really like these two songs and think they fit perfectly with the entire Musicology album, which is one of my favorite albums.
