I know it was a joke but Apollonia 6 is a damn good album. Could have been great with "Manic Monday", but still damn good.

here's some more info on it from Brenda Bennet.....

Tell us about the long-form video for the Apollonia 6 album...Presumably, you are talking about the "Mr. Christian" video project. The project was a concept of doing an extended EP per se, only in a video format as opposed to an audio EP: take one of the songs from the album ("Happy Birthday, Mr. Christian"); write a story line around the subject of that song and incorporate other songs from the album into the story to create a mini movie. It was a great idea and the project was a lot of work, but fun. I'm just sorry that it didn't get completed and released. Someone out there got their hands on it and released it on YouTube in its unfinished version. It created a lot of cult interest and keeps appearing from time to time.

Cuz it sucks? Dunno. Just a guess.

Excellent educated response. Because apparently bad albums don't exist on streaming services.
lol

Perfect response - love it

If people already have these albums as digital files and can play them anytime through their smartphones and other mp3 players then the need to be on Spotify is unnecessary.

Its much easier on spotify. I dont want to upload all these files to my phone.

I don't know what kind of phone you have, but it's much easier for me to keep these few hard to find albums on my phone (they don't take up that much space at all) than wonder when they will disappear again from all the streaming services.

interesting... I never really care wether or not those albums are on the streaming services, as they often do not have the versions I want or the right tags and pictures etc. For me, I'd rather keep my music under my control, including on my phone.

.

Spotify (my only streaming service) is only used to play something I happen to talk about to a friend and do not have it on my phone. (if it is on spotify, which is kind of hit and miss)

.

With regards to Apollonia 6, it is not one or Prince's strongest albums, in my opinion, but holds its own for 1984 albums. Side 1 is fairly "standard" fare (and for many people the preferred side), but for me side 2 really holds up. Starting with the awesome "A Million Miles", and the Pretenders' soundalike (well, Brenda's voice more than anything) Some Kind Of Lover, there's no way this album can go wrong and it stands apart somewhat from other albums of the time.

.

Ooo She She Wa Wa is a fun track, but definitely more guilty pleasure than something that is going to win new converts to the cause of Prince's genius. razz

.

End it ends with In A Spanish Villa. If you ever wondered what it would sound like if Prince made a half acoustic, meandering, dreamy and summer evening in 2 minutes track, this is it. He's never sounded closer to Santana in this track that is basically a ballad that is a guitar solo. Think the first two minutes of maggot brain with the guitar turned much lower in the mix. I wish there was an instrumental version of this track, as Apollonia's background spanish poem recital doesn't do anything for me though.

.

To summarize: I'm an old fart that curates his own music collection and I only use streaming services as backup and those younguns should do the same! And the Apollonia 6 album has something fans of the Prince sound of 84 stuff (side 1) and show some interesting expanding of Prince's musical horizon on side 2. Get it, download it, stream it, learn it. cool

The video EP featured Happy Birthday,Mr Christian, Sex Shooter ( which is a different video than the single release) Blue Limousine and Ooh She Waa Waa. There was also dialogue between each video from Apples, Brenda and Susan. Yes we get 2 hear Susan speak! Hope it gets officially released from Prince's vault.

My understanding is that Prince had nothing to do with it. It was something WB initiated and it must be in their vault. They own the music anyway. So idk, I guess it could work as some promo on YT and iTunes video release if the album is ever rereleased.

After Vanity 6 and The Family albums were made available on Google Play last year (although The Family seems to be gone now), I thought Apollonia 6 would have been included by now. What's the trouble in releasing it digitally?

According to Tyka it was Orange.
