The rehearsal of Raspberry Beret that leaked a while ago is everything... 82,83 and 84 Prince all in one... cant wait to hear the studio version! (And all the others that have been mentioned in this thread, and I Would Die 4U, and Baby I’m a Star...)

He wrote "P Control" in utero.

i never did but i'd like to, i fully believed it when it was said in articles in the eighties that it had been in the can because it sounded like it probably would have been closer in style and spirit to "when you were mine" than what was actually released.

According to Princevault, the 1982 version is “shorter” than the released one. So I’m guessing it ends after the guitar solo before the bridge on the released version...

I always thought that if you were to turn down the high hats/cymbals in the released version of the song then it’s somewhat reminiscent of Little Red Corvette... they were recorded around the same time after all.

A somewhat important topic strangely overlooked.
I've been curious about it myself for years now.

It's a great paradox to have witnessed the frequent impatience of Prince for any of his projects (with often sad and frustrating left offs), and the years he could wait until he finds just the right production, arrangements, and sound for a specific song to put it out.

I've always wondered about this, too. But I've never heard of its existence in the bootleg market.

Wait for the official Vault release, I guess...

I’m desperate to hear all of these early versions, given how different they can be. Indeed, they’re often superior (Tick Tick Bang, We Can Fuck etc). Hope and patience I guess. biggrin
