Oh heck, I'll play. I've been following the charts since 1989. I don't know about the British charts but on the Billboard 200 Brand New's recent album 'Science Fiction' dropped from #1 to #97. Shortly after, Bon Jovi's 'This House Is Not For Sale' re-entered at #1 then plunged to #169. Lenny's new 'Raise Vibration' plunged from #43 to off the chart the following week, over 157 positions. Falling from #12 to out of the Top 100 isn't unheard of. In the US PM83 fell 11-104. Brockhampton's 'Iridescence' fell 1-88 this week. Huge drops happen all the time.

Dude, its basically a novelty record that has no airplay. You just like shitting on Prince for some reason.

I m not shitting on Prince.
You are shitting on the facts.
.

And the facts are that this certainly the first time ever in the Uk charts, that an album hits such an high position the first week, and then exits the top 100 the following week, losing more than 88 positions in the process.
.
So this is what we Can call à record for sure, unless you prove me wrong.

What à Bad faith ! Thanks to prove you don t have arguments and that you re complètely dishonnest.
I already proved you were wrong : This never happened before.

Thanks, but the US charts are not really the Uk charts, So this is out of the topic, but nevertheless good to know !
.
I never questionned this for the US charts, but I guess it s kind of Funny to turn à statement into something else.
.
Science Fiction's drop is à record in the US. So this was unheard until september of 2017, So we Can t really say this is an usual thing, even in the US.
.
This house was a reentry, it charted more than one week, not the point here.
.
Raise Vibration is à more relevant instance, but never charted as high as #12.

Your obsession with the chart discussions is an odd one....especially when you obviously have an axe to grind, not so subtly.

The obsession of some orgers to quote one of my statement,w hich wasn t attacking anyone or anything, and saying "no you re wrong, it happened all the time" but not being able to prove it is an odd one too.

For the record, the biggest drop ever in the Uk charts happened last year.
.
It was a band called "The Vamps" with an album entitled Night and day. It dropped from #1 to #35 in its second week.
.
Nothing as dramatical than to drop from #12 to out of 100.

Your statements are representative of a person who wants me to do their homework. As for what Renfield said about charts and the dropping so far on the charts with in the 2nd week as somehow not being revelant seems like you are into alternative facts. When clearly the discussion was about dropping on the charts, whether Ireland, UK, Or USA dropping on a chart with in the second week for an artist would be revelant information (as pertaining to the main subject-dropping on the charts).

I didn't turn your statement into anything. I said up front I didn't know the record for the UK charts. And big drops in the US weren't "unheard of" until 2017, that one just happened to set the record. Albums have been plummeting drastically since Soundscan was introduced in 1991.

At any rate, is falling out of the UK Top 100 from #12 a record? I don't know, and since you brought it up and insinuated it was then that's on you to prove.

Are we in Orwell's 1984?

1) Someone posted "Piano is out of 100 in Uk"
2) I quoted that saying " it must be some kind of à record"
3) You stated it happened all the time (ie in the Uk, or else this is out of topic)
4) I ask you to show us some instances
5) You answer : do it yourself.
.
If your point was saying " it happenes all the time everywhere in the World", then I m sorry but that wasn t what I was saying at all.
I was talking about the Uk charts, since that was what I quoted : Uk charts.
.
So no, the discussion was clearly about Uk charts, but you misunderstood that complètely.

I just had a look at the physical sales for the album in the UK. Over the last few weeks, it has been at #9, #34 and now #91.

Clearly it isn't being streamed much at all, but physical sales are perhaps more in line for a posthumous release of what may seem to be just "that piano album from Prince". Streaming sales account for a lot these days and, mostly due to Prince's refusal to have his music 'freely available', his music isn't streamed an awful lot, at least not for a global superstar. Just look at the figures for his YT channel - not great by any means, and as a fan of Prince that makes me sad.

His streaming numbers are good.

Could be better? Yes.

But many Prince fans are out of touch with Streaming.

He has 6 million listeners on Spotify. Madonna has 8. Stevie has 9. Bowie has 9. Lennon has 4.

Remember he missed many years on Spotify and Youtube. He is just getting started. Many friends didn't even know his music was available on streaming platforms now. It will take some time. But new releases are great because when people check new albums his past material also gets more exposure.

US Week 2

Top Album Sales #20

Lol I thought you were talking about BB 200, and was amazed about this position. But in fact I just checked and it was #104 !
.
And for the 3rd week it is now out of the BB200 (though #35 in pure sales)
.
1 week in the top 100 album, 2 in the top 200. Now you all Can see the discrepancies in the charts, complètely disconnected from the truth, created by the streaming for older artists I predicted 3 years ago.

I don't think so. I can't imagine it cost them much of anything to release and they made a couple hundred thousand off of it. If this were a heavily promoted "BRAND NEW ALBUM FROM THE LATE GENIUS" then yeah, it would be a failure, but for "Prince played the piano for half an hour at home in 1983" it did pretty well. I don't think there was any expectation that this would be a massive platinum record but it likely made money, got great reviews, and kept his brand alive. That's a win.

Yeah, I don't think it was a fail. The album is a critical smash and has a lot of casual fans excited.

On RateYourMusic (a site where users can rate albums, singles, etc.), it has the highest average of any Prince album since Sign o' the Times: https://rateyourmusic.com/artist/prince

This IS not a good question.
Of course, considering the (lack of) quality, quantity, promotion and booklet of Thïs release, it Can t bé labelled as a flop.
.
Thé good question IS : IS thé last Piano...tour would have triggered more sales and intérest ? Of course yes. So from Thïs point of view, Thïs IS clearly a lack of ambition.
.
If they wanted to release Thïs, tthey could have done it a few months After Prince s death instead.
