Maya is also half of an excellent Prince tribute band PRINCESS (saw them at Brooklyn Bowl last year), and a MAJOR Prince fan!!

I think "iconic" is pushing it. The skit was basically an impression of his look, voice, whatever (and it's debatable how good that was). In any event, it was pastiche more than humor. Not trying to be unkind but Armisen and this skit always came across as second-rate to me; filler from fans who wanted him to take notice of them. It never worked.

Apparently they (PRINCESS*) were at the Revolution gig, standing right in front of me... but I'd grown accustomed to my girlfriend at the time hating anything and everything I looked at... and was wearing my "horse side blinders" that evening, hemming and hawwing and "Oww-oooo!"ing all night.

They later left and hit the stage.

Either way, I've always hated this "sketch"... it was pathetic then, and I think any laughs it got were just charity from the "APPLAUSE" signs...

It was never funny, it was never clever. The guy looks like a buffoon.... and Jesus... isn't he still on the show? No offense, I've never found the guy funny at all. He's a bore to deal with and sit through.

I really don't get it. I'm talking about Armisen and all his other stuff... the guy is not funny.

Didn't Erykah Badu use that front cover of Minnie Riperton with ice cream in her "Honey" video?

Just a little side note trivia: Teena Marie is Maya's godmother, and Maya also recorded the song "Too Many Colors" with Teena on her "Lady T" album

If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!
