there's too many to mention. but today i actually wished that the "black sweat" single
would have included a few remixes and a kick ass extended version that went on for
something like 8 minutes. so that would be my pick right now, 'black sweat'.

If we're talking about the kind of 12" extendeds he did in the 80s and part of the 90s (opposed to some dance remix) then:

First, the obvious: GIRLS AND BOYS

Sexuality

The Beautiful Ones

Take Me With U

Annie Christian (I think it could have been really trippy, same with "Sexuality")

17 Days

When Doves Cry

Strange Relationship

Play In The Sunshine (a live cut with a jam session on it)

If I Was Your Girlfriend

Strollin' (like the longer "She Spoke 2 Me")

The Max (that piano hook!)

3121

Guitar

Space

Joy in Repetition (a wonderful long guitar solo in it with "love me" chants throughout)

"eye don’t really care so much what people say about me because it is a reflection of who they r."

Songs that feel like they could have kept going past the fade out, or could have gone in crazy new directions during an extended section:

Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad (I wonder if the extended version he played live, where he had that amazing solo after yelling "Bitch!", was ever recorded?)

Sexuality

Annie Christian

Delirious

I Wonder U

Strange Relationship (not just the extended outtake intro, a full 12" mix)

Dance On (isn't it rumored to be in the Vault?)

Trust

Loose

319

Wasted Kisses

Mad

3121

Fury

The Breakdown

Funny how many of the same songs we picked! The Beautiful Ones does have that unreleased extended version, though I guess you meant you wanted more than that.

I would have been happy w/ the original version.

I agree with all of them, but the thought of an extended version of If I Was Your Girlfriend is just... well, that would be the definition of an aural orgasm...

The SOTT ones that suggest a transition into a "Part II" near the end.
"The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker", "Forever In My Life", "U Got The Look".

The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter
No Child's a failure
Until the Blue Sailboat sails him away from his dreams
Don't Ever Lose, Don't Ever Lose
Don't Ever Lose Your Dreams

I think the shortness of it is what makes it brilliant.
Do you really want ten minutes of weeping cellos?

The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter
No Child's a failure
Until the Blue Sailboat sails him away from his dreams

Come to think of it, there was a leak of a longer version of this just a couple of months ago.

And I agree about the others.

I like the extended Mountains but that transition is awkward, i'd like to hear an extended with vocals as well.

Boom is definitely cut off too short

3121 title track could be great, we got a bit of it on the live version

Electric Chair would be great

Is it too much to ask for a final chorus on ICNTTPOYM??

Girls & Boys for sure though.

"U got the look" has an extended version that was officially released on the 12" single.

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

Similar are songs that hint they are about to veer off into other worlds just as the fade kicks in - Can't Stop This Feeling I Got immediately springs to mind: the guitar solo starts and the song fades. Annoyed me then, annoys me now.

I wonder what you all think is missing in G&B? It's a perfectly finished song with a solid end.

Yup, you're right.
But this is around the time where Prince's maxi-singles started to sound more like standard remixes of the song,
instead of proposing a reinvention or an extension of the song.

I mean, Shep Pettibone on "Hot Thing", cleaning the original dirt with a squeaky clean sound, not my cup of tea.
The 7 minutes Mo'Quake is fun, but it's just mixing table button pushing.
It's great, you can hear some parts soloed, but I can't call it an "extended" version.
To me it has to imply some kind of rewriting, or writing of additional original parts,
to qualify as extended: "Pop Life", "America", "Kiss", "Mountains" are fine examples.

I'd love to hear the various versions of U Got the Look as he worked it out. That recent-ish leak shows just how much of a mess it was about halfway through production, he really tightened it up before final release.

The 9 minute version of "Pop life" is spectacular though! I get what you are saying and appreciate your view on it!

I edited my response because aqpparently I didn't get what you were saying until I read it again LOL! "Let's work" and "Let's go crazy" are other fine examples of what you are talking about.

With you on Time. Even though it’s about 7 mins I want them synth/horns to carry on near the end.
.
And Stare, that could groove on longer and have an outro like Groovy Potential.
.
Also with you on Arrogance/The Flow; could listen to those horns and chants a bit longer.
