Name 2 of your favorite Prince mash-ups

I loved it when Prince would blend two (or more) songs in concert into a new creation. I am not talking about the medleys in which he was trying to go through his hits in an abbreviated sequence. The mash-ups seemed different in that Prince seemed invigorated by them not just trying to give the crowd the hits they wanted to hear. I have several favorites but I will list just two.

1. Little Red Corvette/Dirty Mind/ Linus and Lucy - Piano and Mic Tour - When Prince opened with this at the first Atlanta show, I was blown away even if I was just listening to the boot. It played in my mind and my headphones for months! Rarely has he gotten a bigger crowd reaction than the one he received for this.

2. 1+1+1 Is 3 featuring Love Roller Coaster - One Night Alone Tour - I just heard the Louisville show of this tour for the first time. What was amazing is that he just played a 30 straight minute stretch of the relatively unfamiliar Rainbow Children Album without interruption, but managed to still get an amazing reaction during this song. I got off my exercise bike when this came on. Just had to bananadance!

What are your favorites?

At the time when it came out, I was fascinated that during the PR tour, he go through "Let's Go Crazy", then went into "Delirious" with the same Linn pattern as LGC. Then, during "Delirious", he went into the middle extended section of "LGC" from the 12".

The "Mutiny" and "Ice Cream Castle" mashup on Arsenio (and around that time) was interesting.

In 2010 era, he sometimes had Elisa sing "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" during "Mountains".

"eye don’t really care so much what people say about me because it is a reflection of who they r."

Loved the way he worked "It" into "Forever In My Life" in the SOTT film.

Yes!! He did that during the Rotterdam shows. Also great. My favorite version of Forever In My Life is his first live performance of the song at the March '87 1st Ave show. SO bare and emotional, but it seemed very real as opposed to the SOTT film, which they lip synced to match the live show at Rotterdam. Still really good though.

thats easily my favorite scene in the entire flick... when he was screaming (over the pulsing "Forever In My Life" beat) the lyrics to "It", like a demon-child in distress...until he had to drop the mic and walk off to put hus soul back into his body, and finish the song...oh yeah he was in RARE form right there...that moment was where the catchphrase "drop the mic" was born...Prince did that

Yes it is!!! I have the 6/15/92 London show on video, and that is by far my favorite part in the show. I think the chain mail mask was the beginning of his move toward changing to the prince, which may imply that part of that change had to do with losing someone he loved. I think the song Solo is linked to that decision as well. Of course, he was so cryptic, so it's just guessing smile

Yes, I agree - the best part of the SOTT film. I do wish they could have used the actual concert footage for the film instead of the re-creation, as I'm sure it would have been even more intense.

Joy In Repetition > Fallin'* > The One

I hope I remember this right, (too lazy to see myself):

I was at the ONA aftershow, Club Vega in Copenhagen. IIRR this "triple" mash-up was part of the set.

Too bad the guitar solo in JIR was cut short due to tech problems. I stood in line 10, and P's guitar just "sat out", and the band took over then. I always felt this guitar solo might have been several minutes longer in case the tech problem had not happened.. (damn).. still a very memorable moment..

Btw. the boot is an amazing soundboard rec. cloud9

* the hit song by Alicia Keys.

Just listened again to another one: from Vegas 2006 - Piano solo of 9 Million Bicycles + the instrumental for Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Gorgeous, just gorgeous.

That sounds like a great triple mash-up. It reminds me of another great triple mashup with Question of U - Fallin'- The One that made the rounds on youtube last year.

I totally agree. I really wish I saw it. I got really disconnected from Prince with The Rainbow Children, but now I love the recoreded versions of the tour that I have heard. It was amazingly bold of him to play so much unfamiliar and faith insipired music on the road. I don't even share his faith but still really dig the tour.
