Awesome interview, always like Levi's playing. Pity there wasn't more discussion of his more famous guitar parts and solos and stuff. Also what was the thing about Boni Boyer he mentioned? Some sort of trouble in the Lovesexy band?

only trouble i heard with boni boyer is she would talk back to prince, i guess someone who was a friend of hers used to say "His mama needs to whip his butt" but who gets to talk back to their boss? I heard they used to rank the hell out of each other. Boni died of a Brain hemmorhage, i heard it may have been drug related, sad waste of lots of talent.

Yeah Cat told a lot of stories about the Boni vs Prince stuff. She would give him the finger, had come backs whenever he tried to make fun of her clothes or weight.
.
Prince used to clown Miko, (and Levi) a lot too, I guess Miko held it in and blew during the 1990 rehearsal.

.

Ingrid said something in the WaxPoets book about trouble in the Lovesexy band too, and Prince would say things and kept her away from the band.

maybe it's cause these guys are old but they seem cool whenever they speak, levi's interview is great at was tony m's. all i heard from and about Rosie was that the other members treated her bad and that Prince didn't do anything. Nothing mosre specific.

yeah age can settle.

Oh yeah, I wasn't really talking about Rosie, but Bonnie Boyer

But Cat & Sheila were an iffy relationship in the band too

I think Sheila E did not count up the cost of joining Princes band and what that would entail

but yeah Rosie talked about her experience too

wonder how true sheila's account is, people are funny when it comes to money. boxers often complain about getting ripped off but the biggest culprits are usually themselves. then they want to blame don king for fucking them which is true a lot of the time but it's also true that they don't have a clue of what to do with money when they get it. So, although i've heard the sheila stuff, i wasn't convinced, i could see Prince maybe not warning or telling her what to watch out for but whether he was part of the plan, i doubt that kinda. He lost money on lovesexy too, that's what happens when you wanna go big like that and damn the costs, he wanted the thunderbirds, the basketball hoops and whatever else drove up costs when he could barely even go gold with his latest album.

What I mean about 'counting up the cost' was the emotional aspect. It was probably worse for her being in that band. She said she saw all the women around Prince and would pull back from him at times. Maybe she forgot and thought if she was in his band she could change the situation. Even though I doubt there was anything between Prince & Cat, Sheila E was used to being on the front with Prince during shows, and now she was locked on the drums and we really didn't see Sheila E as much during the 1987-1988 period, but we saw a lot of Prince & Cat of course. Cat said Sheila would be really cold with her at times. She was used to being on stage with Prince & the Revolution.

.

I think she was honest about the money situation during the 1985-86 period. I don't remember her blaming Prince but like a lot of others[ie Toni Braxton, TLC] not realize they those 'extra' things and entourage, you're paying for.

.

I read a piece from Roy Bennett, that initually Prince even wasnted a lake with a boat, but of course it wasn't working out. WB bent over backwards for Prince...

ya, they did, probably no other company would have treated him like that. I sometimes wonder how a young prince would navigate in todays world, no telling, with his drive, talent and cunning it would be interesting. If the biz was bad before it's actually dead today.
