Anyone remember the cartoon short 'Basketball Jones'? The diminutive basketball-playing character reminds me a little of 'highschool Prince'.

Give it a look, the songs were composed in 1960, and it this kind of tvand music
That I think prince would have enjoyed as a kid and in someway influenced him.
Imo. Especially “one was Johnny”. The animated series camenout in 1975.
Look at it and tell me what u think if u get the chance I think you
Will smile.

ETA there is one I can’t remeber which one where the influence was so
Direct that I was sure in fact prince had watched it or heard the song.
Maybe “alligators all around”. Not sure I will have to go back and rewatch.

That's great!! Don't hear it played much anymore in the US, except on stations that do 70's and 80's format

BBC Radio 2 plays all sorts of music and it is the most popular radiostation in the UK, so it is really nice that many people got to hear that song again. I have noticed Prince being played a lot more often on various stations lately, which is a good sign in my opinion. cool

Luckily, here in the US, just about every city has a "retro" station, so we still hear some of Prince's music on the radio, but it's usally the bigger hits - like Kiss, LRC, Let's Go Crazy, etc. And of course we have YT and streaming now too music :

I just noticed that Wikipedia says the song was released on the 14th of July 1987, a very interesting date (Bastille Day, the French equivalent to the US Independence Day) which tallies with the video being filmed in Paris and the famous parisian sights within it.

I wonder if Prince had done this on purpose...

I wouldn't doubt that. Prince seemed to be enamored with Paris and also Nice. The July 14th release, and the parisian aspects may have been him paying homage to the city. I think he had those backdrops in some of the SOTT movie, right? I remember Moulin Rouge and some other things...

That's right. And let's not forget that the album starts with these two words: 'In France'. cool

Right! In my opinion, and I know there are tons of naysayers on this, I think the album songs (most of them), set design, Paris theme and the colors are tied to his relationship with Susannah. He proposed to her in Paris, and they spent time there together. I could be wrong, but that is what it seems.

That's a very plausible explanation.

Too many connections with the songs (Forever In My Life, Adore, IIWYG, Starfish & Coffee) the colors, the peach dress which Cat Glover stated was made for Susannah, and she is thanked first on the album liner notes.

Wow. You're right, a lot of things on the album point to her, plus she recorded some background vocals for a few songs that were kept for the album.
